I just want to preface this with saying that my recommendations are done off newegg because of sheer laziness, there might be better prices/deal in other places.

For the DVD/RW get a lite-on or NEC that comes with a bundled burning program. That Asus is great, but has no software, bundled Nero ftw.

The hard drive can be improved upon. The Seagate is nice, but its over a year old, there are newer drives that are faster and more modern such as these. (more storage as well, and better $ per GB)

Video card is a good choice, but an x1800GTO would be a nice step up for a little more cash

Memory is good but I would upgrade to 2x 1GB instead.

CPU -OMG drop down to a 3200+ and save ~$80, use that 80 bucks to upgrade to a better video card, and 2GB of ram. (ram first then video card if you can budget it)

Thanks for the replys so far guys, really appreciated! As for the memory, I am buying two packs of the Corsiad 2x 512 sticks, So in all I will have 4 x 512 sticks which is 2GB. I read articles and saw (for the most part) that there was no real difference between 4 x 512 sticks and 2 x 1GB sticks.

As for the Hard Drive, the motherboard only supports SATA 1.5 Gb/s, NOT SATA 3.0GB/s. Is the difference really noticeable? Thanks again!

The difference (technically) is exactly 1.5 gb/s. You will appreciate the ability to take a faster HD out and use it as a secondary in three years when you update again. Here, I like this one better:

just $16 more dollars than the one you've suggested, but more than twice as large, and faster to boot. and yes, samsung makes great components.

edit: on your ram issue. 2x1gb will always be better than 4x512 for the following reasons

1) fewer pieces, fewer chances one will go bad
2) you can resell each stick in two more years and recover some money for each 1gb stick. Try that in two years for 512mb and it will be like trying to sell 128mb today.
3) if you decide to build a cheap home theater pc (intead of selling your components) in two years, you've already got 2gb of decent ram, to plug into a small-form-factor pc. two slots is the maximum most mATX boards take.
4) just...the yuck factor of having 4 sticks when you could've done the same thing with two. i mean really...yuck. i think i need a shower now.

EXACTLY- I have an AMD 3000 + and I can run BF2 in 64's without even the slightest lagg... I also have 2 GB of RAM..... If your willing to do that, get this RAM...

First off, my suggestion for a newer hard drive is not because of the bandwidth of SATA 3.0, but the drives are 2 generations newer than the 7200.7. They are faster all around, and $3 more expensive, and are 160GB over 120GB. SATA 3.0 has nothing to do with it, they are just better modern drives.

Also dont get 4x 512MB. 2x 1GB is the same price and faster, and less of a hassle. Dont get 4x512

Get another PSU if you can. Try a Seasonic or one from OCZ (PowerStream 512W). A stable and reliable PSU means the world for a fully functional system.

The interface speed is faster, but the actualy data transfer is no diffrent. Todays drives are limited by hardware speed limitations, not interface. 4 raptors in RAID0 still only use 144 Mb/s, there is no way you woold use more than that on a single drive...

QFT, but lets not confuse the OP. The newest generation hard drives are faster than what he has speced out. The 7200.7 was an awesome drive, in the top 3 if not the best drive....... but this was mid 2004.

:laugh: Its older, and it should be ignored for the most part now, there are alternatives that are faster for the same money.

Ok, so instead of the 4 x 512 sticks i am going with the recommended XMS Corsair (2 x 1GB)

I went down to a AMD 3500+ ( Was told that should be enough to run BF2 on high with no snags)

I understand that the 3.0 GB/s is a faster hard drive and more up to date, but I am worried about the compatibility with my motherboard. Am i right that Sata 1.5 GB/s interface on the motherboard won't work with a 3.0GB/s hard drive?

Do you plan on overcloking at all. If so the 3700 would be the better choice.
3.0gb/s is backwards compatible with 1.5, it will work just fine.
