anyone have any opionions on Mushkin memory? good? bad?

Muskin? Good, but there are better.

That memory? Nothing special. Its also DDR2, incase you have AMD.

It will if you have a DDR2 motherboard. P4's run/have run on RDRAM, SDRAM, DDR and DDR2 ram.

I agree, mushkin is good, and reliable, but some are better, at least imo. Also, Flanker, what would u consider the best brand/series of memory?

The best Non-overclockers brand? I wouldn't go past Corsair ValueSelect if not overclocking, but XMS is pretty good RAM if you want faster timings (not worth it, imo). I'm against XMS in most cases though, its expensive RAM that can't overclock, an oxymoron. Its not like Overclocking RAM is unstable or anything, its most likely more stable at stock speeds.

Its good ram (I have it) but be warned that the latest revisions... since 2006 rolled around have sucked for overclocking, many more reports of people hitting a wall @ 260mhz +.

I am one of those people, if the SPD timings are defaulting to 3-5-5-8 those are usually regarded as the lesser sticks, and wont perform as well. MY sticks personally crap out around 265mhz. I also bought them in february and payed near full price.

Its nice ram, but i was really hoping for the 270-280mhz that the good sticks are reporting.

Basically < 260mhz is pretty rare, but I have heard of it happening, 260 - 265mhz is becoming very common since 2006, 270-280mhz are the extremely lucky sticks, and very very good results, >280mhz is one in a hundred, and an exceptional stick, some reports of hitting 300mhz, but thats very rare, and I have only heard about that with older sticks released 6 months ago.

For the record mine are 602 sticks, made in feb, and while nice, and able to run 3-4-4-7 @ 260mhz 100% stable, its a far cry from 270+.

Well you can't ask for much from 2 x 1GB sticks, and I've looked but can't find any other memory that can get past the 260/270MHz mark. I think there's the OCZ Gold Series or something that does it, but it costs like $290 or something. Besides, that G.Skill is some of the cheapest 2 x 1GB memory out there, like $20 more than 2 x 1GB ValueSelect.

Thats true, they are a good deal even if you get a low OC. The Mushkin redline are supposed to be based off the same chips, but are regarded as being better OCers. Though more expensive.

There is also an influx of newer lower latency 2GB dimms that operate at PC4000. Im not sure what type of chips they are, or how well they OC, but I think they are pretty expensive.

I know the HZ are UCCC Samsung ram.


EDIT: I glanced at newegg, and it looks like the older redline is out of stock... possibly discontinued.

Or maybe they just got new heatspreaders.... damn those things are scary!

yea, I was fixing to say something. The link he posted to is notebook memory. So if your playing on a laptop, like I am assuming signa is, you'll be fine, but if it is for a desktop, you really don't want this RAM, as it wouldn't fit.
