Ram Question

I have 2GB of ram (2x1GB) but it seem my computer is running them @ PC1600 for some reason, can someone help with why? I did have 4x512, would that make a difference?

It only makes a difference if your running an older clawhammer CPU. If you have a revision E then it should run @ DDR400.

Go into your bios and make sure under the memory settings to put the memory divider at 1:1 . 200mhz FSB to 200mhz (400mhz DDR) speed on memory.

Thats my CPU, I think its a winchester. I'll go into the bios and see if there is a 'memory divider' and set it to 1:1, I'll post back results.

If you have a winchester it will default to DDR333 with 4 sticks, Only revision E and later can run DDR400.

In that case a 1:1 setting wont work, but you should try and force it to DDR333, it would be somewhat better than DDR200. eeek

I've been into the BIOS and can't see anything about a memory divider I've got this in the DRAM bit in the advanced chipset settings

Timing Mode [AUTO] (I can change this setting)
Mem Clock index value (Mhz) 100Mhz
CAS Latency (TCL) 2
Min RAS# active time (tras) 5T
RAS# to CAS# delay (TRCD) 2T
Row precharge time (TRP) 2T

User config mode [AUTO](I can change this setting)
1T/2T memory timing 1T
Read preable value 9ns
Async latency value 7ns

I have CPU spectrum spread- Enabled(didnt do anything to it was default, thought it might have something to do with this???)

I have 2sticks of 1GB but I used to have 4x512.

The 200mhz setting is 1:1, and the 166 is what you want to run.

Thanks for you help twsmit. Im still having problems tho, I dont have a DFI mobo, I have a KN1 SLI extreme (cheap mobo) and I cant see anything like those options in my BIOS, I haven't updated my BIOS, do I need too? Like I said in the previous post all I have in the options stated.

PS If I have 2sticks of ram do I have to run@ 333mhz? I thought with 2 you could run @ 400mhz?

Two sticks of ram means DDR400, 4 sticks means DDR333

THAT is what we are looking for! Every mobo labels that with different terminology. You want to set the memory speed to 200mhz, and your set!!!!

Stupid programming? Just set it to 200mhz manually and your set.

Ok lets get this together here. First of all manually set your command rate to 2T to make sure thats not whats holding you back. Second change this:


Timing Mode [AUTO]

to manual, and this:

Mem Clock index value (Mhz) 100Mhz

to

Mem Clock index value (Mhz) 166Mhz or 200mhz

Then if you can get that working try chaning command rate back to 1T.
