Garry's Mod LUA Exploit Leads to Spread of "Coughing Virus"
Earlier today, some malicious code started to spread through many Garry's Mod servers. This code forced a server to push a .dll file to a user's computer. This would then spam the word "cough" to friends of the affected player and also through in-game chat. It would also change the affected user's name and also append exclamation points to the front of affected servers (so as to appear first on the server browser when sorting by name). This seems to have been the extent of the damages ca... -

Battlefield 1942 is Free on Origin... Again
Once again, EA is just giving away Battlefield 1942 through Origin. Last month EA gave out Dead Space as part of their new On the House program. This month it's Battlefield 1942 that's free, though their On the House page still lists Dead Space. So either this is a non-On the House free game and a limited time offer, or it's going to be an On the House deal, or it's a new permanent price reduction, or I have no idea what I'm talking about. No matter what, just go get the game since ... -

Final Fantasy 3 Might Come to the PC
A listing on Germany's USK database shows that there might be plans to bring Final Fantasy III to the PC. The rating shows that the game has been approved for persons six years old and up.
The original release of the game happened about 24 years ago now (I bet some of you feel really old right about now). It's seen a variety of re-releases across a number of different platforms. Let's just hope this is a legitimate filing and that we'll start to see this and more Final... -

Titanfall and PlayStation 4 Top the NPD Charts for March
Sure, Microsoft may have sold 311,000 Xbox One consoles to retailers in March, but the PlayStation 4 still sold more units. This is according to the latest NPD figures and a breakdown from GI.biz.
On the hardware side of things, the PlayStation 4 "led hardware sales despite the Xbox One exclusive Titanfall topping the games chart." That means the PS4 sold above the 311,000 units that Microsoft moved with the Xbox One and managed to do so despite the release of Titanfal... -

Xbox One Has Shipped 5 Million Units to Retailers
Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One has shipped over 5 million units to retailers since its launch. That again is a figure that has shipped to retailers but not necessarily sold to consumers.
There is quite a big difference between those two things. However, beyond that, Microsoft has also noted that March was a strong month for the Xbox One. They sold 311,000 units through the month, while the Xbox 360 sold 111,000 units. They also note that, on average, there are 2... -

VHS Tapes Used to Achieve the Low-fi Look in Alien: Isolation
The above video from GameSpot for Alien: Isolation shows off how the team managed to achieve "low-fi sci-fi." That is to say, the team actually recorded game elements and UI elements to VHS tape, messed with the cables, imported that back into the game environment and what resulted was pure 1970's magic.
That's actually really awesome.... -

The Most Popular and Least Popular Steam Games Discovered
Art Technica put together a list of some of the most popular and some of the least popular games on Steam. They go on a bit about how they gathered the data but that's a bit boring. I mean, if you really want to know, you can head over to read their full article or simply look below for the interesting stuff outlined in the headline.
As you can see, just because a game is registered to a lot of Steam accounts doesn't mean it's popular. Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, for instance,... -
