These Great Games Were Released in 2019

And this is my list of my favorite games of 2019.

You may call this a "Game of the Year" list. I suppose that isn't far off from...

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Delayed

April is starting to look a little packed.

Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase said today that the game will be delayed slightly. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was originally slated to be released on March 3. Now, it will instead be released on April 10. This comes via a press release sent out Kitase and the development team at Square Enix.

This sad news comes roughly a week after the still unannounced demo for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was leaked. There are already...

New Character Focused Trailer and Screens for Resident Evil 3 Remake

When you smile...

When you think of Resident Evil 3, you probably think of the characters of Jill Valentine and the ever persistent Nemesis. You may even think of Carlos, whom you do spend a bit of time playing as after a certain story beat in the original. However, there are a number of other characters that were in the original that are maybe not as memorable. They are, nonetheless, still vital to the story and will obviously show up in the Resident Evil 3 remake that Capcom is working...

PlayStation is Officially Ditching E3 2020

A surprise move with the PlayStation 5 mere months away from release.

In late 2018, Sony announced that they would not participate in E3 2019. Today, history repeats itself as Sony has once again announced that they will not be participating in E3 2020. For the second year in a row, Sony and their PlayStation lineup will be a no-show at, what used to be, one of the largest industry events of the year.

Sony has been present at every previous E3 up until 2019. They have...

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Would Take Longer to Develop than the Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy

In speaking with Joystiq, Final Fantasy producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said that while he would love to do an HD version of Final Fantasy 7, the work load would be more than the entire Final Fantasy 13 trilogy.

Keeping in mind that the trilogy of Final Fantasy 13 games took over 10 years to develop and release and you should have a better idea of how big of a task it would be to remake Final Fantasy 7 with modern visuals and high definition audio.

  • Unofficial Gameplay Footage for The Order: 1886

Unofficial Gameplay Footage for The Order: 1886

Here is just the briefest glimpses of gameplay from The Order: 1886. You've already seen two new non-gameplay trailers today so why not see how the game looks in action. The footage is not direct from Sony or Ready at Dawn and may also not be direct feed either (crackling sound in places, cuts, etc.).

It's not very telling from the footage shown if it's all narrow corridors and Telltale style quick time events, so keep your fingers crossed that the full game isn't merely Gears of...

New Trailers for the PS4 Exclusive - The Order: 1886

A couple of new trailers have come out today for the PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Order: 1886. Unfortunately, neither of them actually show any gameplay, but we'll get back to that in the next news post.

The next trailer seems like a bit of a "Cliff's Notes" version of the announcement trailer from E3 2012. Just for the hell of it, we'll include it anyway.

The Order: 1886 introduces players to a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where Man

  • PlayStation 4 has Sold over 5.3 Million Units to Date

PlayStation 4 has Sold over 5.3 Million Units to Date

As of February 8, the PlayStation 4 has already surpassed 5.3 million units sold throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, and a few parts of Asia. That figure is just Sony's estimate on sell-through to the end consumer, so the actual number of units sold to retailers may be a bit higher.

Though I can't imagine the number would be that much higher since it's still next to impossible to find a PlayStation 4 in stock anywhere, at least here in the States. Last month,...

Hard Mode Coming to FTL: Advanced Edition

For those wondering just how the hell FTL could possibly get any harder, your guess is as good as mine. I haven't even beat the game on Easy yet and they're adding a Hard mode to the game.
Of course that wasn't all ...

  • Battlefield 4 Free Handgun Shortcut is Available Now

Battlefield 4 Free Handgun Shortcut is Available Now

The shortcut package that lets you unlock every pistol in Battlefield 4 is now available through Origin.

It should show the price as being $0, a savings of 100% from its normal price of $4.99 (USD). It includes the following unlocks: M9, QSZ-92, MP443, SHORTY 12G, G18, FN57, M1911, 93R, CZ-75, .44 MAGNUM, and Compact 45.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, there should still be shortcut kits for the DMRs and shotguns coming soon.

  • BioShock Developer Irrational Games 'Winding Down' as Most Employees are Laid Off

Ken Levine updated the Irrational Games website earlier today with a sad message for fans of the BioShock series and System Shock 2, to name a couple. He says that Irrational Games will be "winding down" and that he will be moving to a "smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor" at Take-Two.

He also says that this means having to let go of all but 15 employees at Irrational Games. Here is Ken Levine's message to the fans.

Dear Esther Dev Explains the Hidden Costs in Using the Source Engine

Dear Esther is making the move from the Source Engine to Unity as it readies for release on the consoles. So, why the switch? Apparently there were some hidden costs associated with using the Source Engine that The Chinese Room wasn't aware of initially. Robert Briscoe explains how he received a "huge bill" for some of the middleware included in the Source Engine. He says that neither he nor his team was aware of any of the middleware of the fees associated with it. The team also h...

  • Gabe Newell Responds to Accusations Saying Valve is Spying on Your Browsing Habits

The other day, someone made the claim that Valve is reading all of your DNS cache entries and sending those entries to Valve. What a surprise it was (not really) when it turns out that wasn't true.

Hearing enough of this nonsense, Valve's own Gabe Newell decided to set the record straight on what VAC is and is not doing. Here is his Reddit post, reproduced in full.
Trust is a critical part of a multiplayer game community - trust in the developer, trust in the system,
