EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford has made it clear that Borderlands 3 is not presently in development.
"We love Borderlands, and we know customers do too. So we will be doing more in Borderlands. But the thing that, when you think of what Borderlands 3 should be... No. We are not developing that right now. We don't know what that is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don't know what it is yet. I'm not going to fuck around with you like Valve does with Half-Life 3. Look. We know we want it and we know it should exist, but we don't know what it is yet. But we are doing things in Borderlands that we'll

Daylight Arrives in April for PS4 and PC

Daylight comes and me wan' go home this April on the PS4 and PC platforms. The procedurally generated horror title is built on the Unreal Engine 4.

Zombie Studios' Director, Jared Gerritzen, gave the release window to IGN.

The game is written by Jessica Chobot, whom you may remember as reporter Diana Allers from Mass Effect 3. The story centers around a woman making her way through an abandoned hospital using only her phone as a light source. Given the procedurally generated nature of the game, it should be safe to assume that each play through will never be the same. This also means that the sc...

Target Offering Free $50 Gift Cards with Xbox One Purchase

If you head to your local Target retailer, you may be able to snag an Xbox One with a free $50 Target gift card. This offer may be available across all stores, but you may want to check your local retailer just to be sure. Some speculate that this is an indication that a price reduction is coming soon for the Xbox One. Others feel that this is merely Target trying to move some units. A similar situation happened with the Wii U last year, with a general price reduction following suit after retailers offered limited sale prices on the console. This offer runs from now until February 22. (via ...

Bored? Join Up with Over 24,000 Others on Twitch to Play Pokemon

Let's face it, the Twitch chat is known for being horrible. Yet, someone had the great idea to use that horribleness as inputs for a bot to play Pokemon live to the people that are trying to control the game.

The idea is simple. You watch the stream (also embedded below) at the TwitchPlaysPokemon Twitch channel. You join the chat. You say a command like "up" or "down" and the bot takes each of those commands and actually inputs them into the game. Right now, there are over 24,000 people watching and participating in this. Yes, it's just as much of a terrible and awesome idea as it sounds. To put things into pers...
