New 'Experimental' Splinter Cell Game Confirmed by Ubisoft CEO

Open World? GAAS? Mobile? VR?

The emotional rollercoaster that fans of the Splinter Cell series has been on for the past few years has been never ending, has had no chill, and frankly, it's gotten to be a wee bit tiresome. In May of this year, a new Splinter Cell was apparently "confirmed" and then it was later revealed to just be a joke.

Last month, we again heard a rumor that a new Splinter Cell was actually in the works. However, that story from July says that Facebook is financing the game and that it will be a VR only title and exclusive to the Oculus...

Mojang Cancels 'Super Duper Graphics Pack' for Minecraft

Performance issues and engine difficulties were too much to overcome.

Sadly, Mojang announced today that they are cancelling the promised Super Duper Graphics Pack that was originally revealed at E3 2017. This visual overhaul was teased for the game during the annual industry trade show and fans were eager to check it out for themselves.

This was going to be an optional piece of DLC that brought a suite of visual improvements to the Xbox One and PC versions of the game without needing to mod it. Sure, a lot of the visual improvements have been done time and time again...

Call of Duty 2020 Rumored to Be Black Ops Reboot

Next stop: Reboot City.

This year, Call of Duty fans are getting a reboot of the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title. Next year, fans may get a reboot of the Black Ops series. This is if the latest rumors are to be believed.

The 2020 Call of Duty will either be Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 or simply Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game will be set in the Cold War era and will also include the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

This all comes courtesy of YouTuber TheLongSensation via his Twitter account. While it may be easy to just write this off as some random person...

No Man's Sky Beyond Launch Trailer

Update arrives August 14.

A launch trailer for the massive Beyond update for No Man's Sky was released today by Hello Games. This update is said to be the "culmination of 12 months of work" on what was originally going to be three separate, large updates. Those three updates have been rolled into this massive update.

We already touched upon some of the new features and content coming to the game in our last post. The biggest addition, at least for PC and PlayStation VR owners, is the addition of full VR support for No Man's Sky. There are also some additional...

Solos Finally Coming to Apex Legends

But only for a limited time.

Apex Legends will finally allow introverts to play without worry starting on August 13. A Solos Mode will be introduced into the F2P battle royale game. So far, the game has only really allowed for three-man squads.

The addition of Solos Mode is the good news. The bad news is that this mode will only be added to the game for a limited time. This Solos Mode will run from August 13 through August 27 in Apex Legends. Best get your fill of it while you can, because who knows when or if it will come back afterwards. ...

New Trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is Full of Pop In and Web Swinging

Hey look, it's a new developer walkthrough video for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Look at the fluid web swinging mechanics and the terrible amount of pop in while zipping through the streets.

The game is about a month away from its release on April 29 from Activision and Beenox....

  • 3D Realms Doesn't Know When to Call it Quits and Claims It Still Owns Duke Nukem

In response to the lawsuit made against the company by Gearbox Software, 3D Realms claims that it still has the right to complete and sell a game called Duke Nukem Survivor.

Duke Nukem Survivor is apparently the Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction game that's been mentioned recently.

In addition, 3D Realms claims that Gearbox doesn't even own the trademark to "Duke Nukem" anyway. They claim it was never part of the Asset Purchase Agreement for Duke Nukem Forever. And so 3D Realms does not go quietly into that gentle night, but kicking and screaming like a little brat. Not bad for a company that sat around doing nothi...

Microtransactions Made $352 Million on Consoles Last Year

According to research conducted by Superdata, microtransactions accounted for $352 million in sales in 2013 just on consoles.

Until now, several barriers contributed to the slow adoption of microtransactions on console: audience expectations, payment preferences and available options, game inventory. The retail model of shelling out $60 for a game has long been the dominant monetization method for consoles. Likewise, the system of first having to convert real money into, for example, Xbox Live points outside the game and then spending those points on an in-game item made for too many steps. But the Xbox One and

Facebook Acquires Oculus VR for $2 Billion

We're still a week out from April Fool's day, right? Yeah? So this is real? Damn.

It seems as though Facebook has acquired Oculus VR for $2 billion. This includes $400 million in cash and 23.1 million shares of Facebook common stock (valued at $1.6 billion) with an additional $300 million earn-out in cash and stock based on reaching certain milestones.
Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. For the past few years, this has mostly meant building mobile apps that help you share with the people you care about. Nvidia Announces $3000 GeForce GTX Titan Z

Weighing in at 5,760 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR5 memory, and 8 TeraFLOPS of power comes the $2,999 (USD) GeForce GTX Titan Z.

This card was unveiled today during the Nvidia keynote at the GPU Technology Conference 2014. The card is allegedly being marketed towards professionals such as those working with workstations, renders, and render farms, much like the old Quadro line of cards. Though you know full well there will be some enthusiasts that purchase one (or more) of these the moment they're available....

  • Thief Already 50% Off in Xbox Live Store Deal

Thief Already 50% Off in Xbox Live Store Deal

On March 28, the latest Thief title will go on sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace for the Xbox One for 50% off. This is in addition to 50% off Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, 33% off Call of Duty: Ghosts and 20% off Call of Duty: Ghosts Digital Hardened Edition.

The big sale on Tomb Raider isn't too surprising since it's already a re-release title. The surprising news is most certainly concerning Thief and its 50% discount. This could be a worrying sign that the newest release in the franchise isn't selling anywhere near as well as was hoped.

Call of Duty suddenly having a number of sales is also a bit telling. This is the franchise that kept steady at full price for years following...

Insomniac Games Celebrates 20th Anniversary with a... Music Video?

This year, Insomniac Games celebrates 20 years of being in the industry. As a result, they made a music video! Wait... what?!

I would expect nothing less from the studio that brought us the Spyro franchise, Ratchet & Clank, and the upcoming Sunset Overdrive for the Xbox One.

If, for any reason, you want just the audio track for the song, you can grab it from Soundcloud....

  • Developer Says Steam Greenlight Going Away within a Year as Steam Becomes More Open

According to Tweets (via CVG) made by Jonathan Biddle of Curve Studios, Valve may be getting rid of their Steam Greenlight service within the next 12 months.
We met with Valve at GDC, and they say Greenlight will be gone within 12 months. They'll still offer curated space, but otherwise be open.
This tends to go hand in hand with what Gabe Newell said a couple of months ago about wanting to make Greenlight go away as Steam evolves. This also ties in with how Valve is giving more control over games and sales to the developer instead of having to go through Valve. Let's just hope this new "openness" doesn't ...

"I think the work the team did on this final chapter speaks for itself," said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games. "We built something that is larger in scope and length, and at the same time put the player in Elizabeth's shoes. This

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike Delayed on PC to an Unknown Date

It seems as though a last minute issue known as "the entirety of Battlefield 4" (ha, jokes) showed up for Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on the PC. As a result, DICE is delaying the release of the new expansion just for PC owners. Console owners running with Premium will get their hands on Naval Strike on schedule (today).
