New 'Experimental' Splinter Cell Game Confirmed by Ubisoft CEO

Open World? GAAS? Mobile? VR?

The emotional rollercoaster that fans of the Splinter Cell series has been on for the past few years has been never ending, has had no chill, and frankly, it's gotten to be a wee bit tiresome. In May of this year, a new Splinter Cell was apparently "confirmed" and then it was later revealed to just be a joke.

Last month, we again heard a rumor that a new Splinter Cell was actually in the works. However, that story from July says that Facebook is financing the game and that it will be a VR only title and exclusive to the Oculus...

Mojang Cancels 'Super Duper Graphics Pack' for Minecraft

Performance issues and engine difficulties were too much to overcome.

Sadly, Mojang announced today that they are cancelling the promised Super Duper Graphics Pack that was originally revealed at E3 2017. This visual overhaul was teased for the game during the annual industry trade show and fans were eager to check it out for themselves.

This was going to be an optional piece of DLC that brought a suite of visual improvements to the Xbox One and PC versions of the game without needing to mod it. Sure, a lot of the visual improvements have been done time and time again...

Call of Duty 2020 Rumored to Be Black Ops Reboot

Next stop: Reboot City.

This year, Call of Duty fans are getting a reboot of the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title. Next year, fans may get a reboot of the Black Ops series. This is if the latest rumors are to be believed.

The 2020 Call of Duty will either be Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 or simply Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game will be set in the Cold War era and will also include the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

This all comes courtesy of YouTuber TheLongSensation via his Twitter account. While it may be easy to just write this off as some random person...

No Man's Sky Beyond Launch Trailer

Update arrives August 14.

A launch trailer for the massive Beyond update for No Man's Sky was released today by Hello Games. This update is said to be the "culmination of 12 months of work" on what was originally going to be three separate, large updates. Those three updates have been rolled into this massive update.

We already touched upon some of the new features and content coming to the game in our last post. The biggest addition, at least for PC and PlayStation VR owners, is the addition of full VR support for No Man's Sky. There are also some additional...

Solos Finally Coming to Apex Legends

But only for a limited time.

Apex Legends will finally allow introverts to play without worry starting on August 13. A Solos Mode will be introduced into the F2P battle royale game. So far, the game has only really allowed for three-man squads.

The addition of Solos Mode is the good news. The bad news is that this mode will only be added to the game for a limited time. This Solos Mode will run from August 13 through August 27 in Apex Legends. Best get your fill of it while you can, because who knows when or if it will come back afterwards. ...

Final Fantasy 3 Might Come to the PC

A listing on Germany's USK database shows that there might be plans to bring Final Fantasy III to the PC. The rating shows that the game has been approved for persons six years old and up.

The original release of the game happened about 24 years ago now (I bet some of you feel really old right about now). It's seen a variety of re-releases across a number of different platforms. Let's just hope this is a legitimate filing and that we'll start to see this and more Final Fantasy titles popping up on the PC (even those that never had a PC release before *coughFF6,9and10cough*)....

  • Titanfall and PlayStation 4 Top the NPD Charts for March

Titanfall and PlayStation 4 Top the NPD Charts for March

Sure, Microsoft may have sold 311,000 Xbox One consoles to retailers in March, but the PlayStation 4 still sold more units. This is according to the latest NPD figures and a breakdown from GI.biz.

On the hardware side of things, the PlayStation 4 "led hardware sales despite the Xbox One exclusive Titanfall topping the games chart." That means the PS4 sold above the 311,000 units that Microsoft moved with the Xbox One and managed to do so despite the release of Titanfall and a number of retailer specific price reductions on the console. Year over year, retail sales are up 3%, software sales are down 28%, and...

  • Xbox One Has Shipped 5 Million Units to Retailers

Xbox One Has Shipped 5 Million Units to Retailers

Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One has shipped over 5 million units to retailers since its launch. That again is a figure that has shipped to retailers but not necessarily sold to consumers.

There is quite a big difference between those two things. However, beyond that, Microsoft has also noted that March was a strong month for the Xbox One. They sold 311,000 units through the month, while the Xbox 360 sold 111,000 units. They also note that, on average, there are 2.9 games sold per Xbox One console. They also note that the Xbox 360 sold 2.7 million games in March and the Xbox One sold 1.4 million games. There...

VHS Tapes Used to Achieve the Low-fi Look in Alien: Isolation

The above video from GameSpot for Alien: Isolation shows off how the team managed to achieve "low-fi sci-fi." That is to say, the team actually recorded game elements and UI elements to VHS tape, messed with the cables, imported that back into the game environment and what resulted was pure 1970's magic.

    That's actually really awesome....
