Review: Crysis Remastered Is One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Maximum meh.

In 2007 the original Crysis was released for the PC. The big question on everyone's mind at the time, and even through to today, is "can your PC run Crysis?" Usually, the answer was "yes, but…" because even the beefiest of computer hardware had trouble maxing out the graphical options that Crysis brought to the table at the time.

Fast-forward to 2020 and the answer gets a bit more muddled. See, the original Crysis was very dependent on...

Microsoft Acquires ZeniMax for $7.5 Billion

It's official.

Microsoft has confirmed that they are in the process of acquiring ZeniMax Media for a cool $7.5 billion (USD) in cash. ZeniMax is the parent company of studios like Bethesda, creator of The Elder Scrolls, as well as id Software, the developer behind DOOM.

This acquisition is reportedly the "biggest video game purchase ever" for Microsoft.

At present, Bethesda has two games that are slated to arrive in 2021. Those include Deathloop...

Both consoles are expected to launch in select countries...

EA Kills Off Origin

Origin to be replaced by more generic naming convention.

First, EA ditched their EA Access and Origin Access branding in favor of EA Play. This happened almost exactly one month ago in August 2020. Now, EA is ready to ditch their Origin desktop client with something a little more generic.

EA is changing the name of their Origin client to "EA Desktop." EA is calling their new app a "next-generation PC gaming platform."

This renaming will...

Rumor: Gears of War Remaster Coming to the Xbox One

The latest rumor that seems entirely plausible is that the original Gears of War will be getting the remaster treatment for the Xbox One. The remaster will obviously sport updated visuals and updated cutscenes. Microsoft is reportedly working on the remaster with either (depending on which rumor you want to believe) Black Tusk Studios or Splash Damage on the remaster. Plastic Wax is reportedly being utilized to handle the cutscene animations. Previously, it was rumored that Micros...

  • Op-Ed: Paying for Game Mods? No Thanks

Op-Ed: Paying for Game Mods? No Thanks

Recently, Valve introduced the ability to have mod makers put a price on the mods they make. I don't support it. I won't support modders that try to sell me a sword for $2. I won't support those that try to sell me a pack of mods, some of which were free for years, for more than the normal cost of the game itself.

I'm all for supporting mod makers but the way Valve is attempting to do it, is not the right way of going about it. Set up an optional donation...

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Teaser Gives Us a Glimpse of the Advanced Warfare Future

I hope you like futuristic war games, because at least part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will include that. In fact, it's looking suspiciously a lot like Advanced Warfare, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Here is the "Ember" trailer for Black Ops 3.

In the next 50 years, technological advancements will lead us into a world where only those who risk going too far, will find out how far we can actually go.
The big ol' "world reveal" takes place in just three days on Apr...

Codemasters is bringing back the Overlord franchise in 2015 with Overlord: Fellowship of Evil. Overlord lets you command little minions to do your bidding as you do decidedly evil things.

With the last true Overlord deceased, gamers take up the role of one of four Netherghūls. These brand new, suitably nefarious additions to the series are undead servants of the dark arts, determined to bring evil back to a world overrun by the forces of good.
