Review: Judgment (PS4)

The same, but different.

Sega, specifically the Yakuza team at Sega, are really damn good at what they do. The primarily Japanese developer has been on a roll with their stellar Yakuza-focused releases this generation that include Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 6. All of these titles have received high praise both from myself and from other media outlets these past few years.

It should then come as no surprise that the level of quality found in those titles does not take any sort of hit with the team's latest release, Judgment. Make no mistake about...

EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Chivalry 2 Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusive

Another Tripwire published title revealed as an EGS timed-exclusive.

The Chivalry series is making a comeback at what could be a very interesting time. Despite fierce competition from Mordhau, Torn Banner Studios announced that they are working on Chivalry 2. It will once again be a multiplayer first-person "slasher" set in medieval battlefields. The game, published by Tripwire Interactive, is targeting a 2020 release on the Epic Games Store.

  • Subnautica: Below Zero Now Available on Early Access

Subnautica: Below Zero Now Available on Early Access

Subnautica: Below Zero has been released into Early Access today on the Epic Games Store (non-affiliate link here), through Discord, and on Steam. The game is set one year after the events in the original Subnautica. This time, the (mostly) underwater exploration takes place near an alien research station on Planet 4546B.

This game is very much the definition of "Early Access" in that the release lacks content and is very buggy. Those who went through the long stretch of Subnautica development probably already know what to expect here.

  • BioWare to Allow Running in Anthem's Fort Tarsis

BioWare to Allow Running in Anthem's Fort Tarsis

While Anthem has had a bit of a rough go, especially in this past weekend's VIP demo, one thing that wasn't mentioned as being changed is the unusually slow movement speed in Fort Tarsis. Thankfully, BioWare was also listening to the numerous complaints about this artificial speed restriction in the main Anthem hub and have revealed that they are changing things up for the game's full release.

BioWare had intentionally reduced the movement speed in Fort Tarsis to make the player feel more human. This was meant to contrast the fast-paced movement players experienced when they...

  • Kingdom Hearts 3 is Now Available

Kingdom Hearts 3 is Now Available

The words "Kingdom Hearts 3 is now available" are ones that many fans have been waiting about 13 years to read. That day has finally come thanks to Square Enix and Disney. This marks the release of the latest and, perhaps, last release in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

I'm not quite sure how well newcomers to the franchise will actually handle this game. The long-running story throughout the games is ... uh... confusing to put it mildly. Maybe "convoluted" is a bit better a word? However, the game has gotten some fairly high praise, currently...

  • Destiny 2 Update 2.1.4 Includes Tons of Class Adjustments and a Special Returning Weapon

The 2.1.4 update for Destiny 2 came out today. The update includes a number of changes to the Sandbox gameplay, with a huge focus on tuning the super abilities for nearly every class and sub-class in the game. Crucible also saw some love today with some tuning adjustments made to heavy ammo in the Competitive game types.

This update also makes some changes to the Black Armory forges, the frequency of the Whispers event on Io, and more. Perhaps the bigger news is the fact that a new questline from the Drifter will allow players to pick up a fan-favorite weapon from the first Destiny. ...

  • Battlefield V's Latest Update Improves Panzerstorm Map, Reduces Footstep Sounds, and More

The second part of the "Lightning Strikes" update for Battlefield V has finally arrived. With it comes a bunch of much needed improvements to the Panzerstorm map alongside some new gear, gameplay tweaks, and more.

The first half of this Lightning Strikes update went live earlier this month. In that update, DICE upped the volume of footsteps to a very, very audible degree. Some may say that they increased it a bit too much. I am one such person. In fact, it seems as though most people thought that the footsteps of enemies were far too loud following that update, because DICE...

  • Anthem VIP Demo Weekend Summary

    Anthem VIP Demo Weekend Summary

The VIP demo weekend for Anthem has come and gone already. It was a bit of a bumpy road that included connection woes, infinite loading screens, and broken entitlements. These are just a few of the issues players encountered this past weekend.

It wasn't a complete bust of a weekend, but for a lot of fans and potentials it was certainly disappointing. BioWare's Head of Live Service Chad Robertson explains that while these issues were terrible, they should be fixed for next weekend's public demo. Furthermore, Robertson also goes on to say that the release version of Anthem already...
