EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Hands-on: Steam Controller General Overview Video

Last night, I put together a short-ish overview video for using and setting up a Steam Controller. Please note that this is not a review. Official reviews are being kept until at least November 10 when the controller is officially released for everyone. The controller is still receiving regular updates from Valve. In fact, an update came out between when I recorded last night and when I finally got the video uploaded about an hour ago (as of the time of this posting).

The video shows off basic functionality of the controller. It also shows some basic setup and configurations for games such as Portal...

Quake Live is No Longer Free - Fans Are Mad

Quake Live is no longer free. The once F2P shooter went from its own standalone launcher to also being available on Steam to being a Steam only game. Once the final transition came where it was only available on Steam, the free price was dropped in favor of a base $9.99 (USD).

In addition, the team at id Software responsible for Quake Live also quietly dropped the subscription service, seemingly without advanced notice to those with active subscriptions. On top of all of that, they reset everybody's stats without warning. The Steam Community posting for the game includes some additional details.

Must See: Solo Drum Performance Destroys Destiny Raid Boss Crota

The community requested it and GladHeAteHer182 (aka: Shadowfax182) delivered in spades. The call went out for someone to beat Crota using nothing but some Rock Band drums. It happened. It was done and yes, there is video proof.

For those unaware, Crota is the final boss in the Crota's End raid from The Taken King content for Destiny. He was capable of being solo'd before and it was made even easier once The Taken King came out and made everyone even more powerful. However, it was never done using a non-standard controller before now.
I would like to start off by shouting a HUGE THANKS to fUnderdog for making this whole thing possible.
