Counter-Strike is dead, long live Counter-Strike!

Without a press release in sight, Valve has launched Counter-Strike 2 to the world. It is now fall, but they only missed...

  • System Shock Reboot Project is Back In Development, Targeting Early 2020 Release

The System Shock reboot/remaster/remake is back in active development, according to a report from PC Gamer. This is rather noteworthy because the last we knew, development was halted after they apparently ran out of funding. It was also a matter that the team felt they had diverted too far from the original vision of what they had hoped to accomplish with the remake. How will things differ now? For starters, Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick said that they are shifting their focus back to wha...

  • First Look at New Playerunknown's Battlegrounds' Island Map Shared in Anniversary Video

This past week, the lead developers of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds shared a "thank you" to the community that got them where they are today. That place? Probably piled floor to ceiling in money, but it's also a place where they can comfortably talk about what's in store for the still popular battle royale style game. Though the community can be a downright cesspool at the best of times, that hasn't seem to stopped the ongoing development of the game. PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Gre...

Metro Exodus will be First PC Game to Use Real Time Ray Tracing Technology

During a GDC 2018 tech demo of Metro Exodus, developer 4A Games said that it will be the first game to make use of Nvidia's new RTX real-time ray tracing technology.

  • Turns Out Announcing Tomb Raider Remasters Without Obtaining Permission is a Bad Idea

About two weeks ago, a tweet went out by realtech VR saying that they were working on remastered versions of the first three Tomb Raider games. They said that these remasters would be coming to Steam and would be free updates to those who own the originals. It was even going to have a bunch of visual improvements such as SSAO, up to 16x AA (though that's arguably quite generic in this day and age), and 60fps gameplay (original game was 30fps). Visual overhauls and OpenVR support on the PC? ...

    by Shawn Zipay
Get that Premium Edition and play three days early!

Looks like the latest growing trend with game releases is to offer a more expensive Premium or Gold or whatever edition that grants you access to a game a few days ahead of its official release.

Starfield did it with their $99.99 (USD) Premium Edition. Today, Payday 3 is doing an "Early Access" release with their Silver and Gold editions. Diablo 4 did the same thing earlier in the year, as did Madden NFL 24,...

I think it's kind of dumb that people get to play earlier. Spending more shouldn't offer a "head start" on other paying customers.
