Unity Changes Terms Once More, Commits to 'Being an Open Platform'
Unity has had a real interesting seven days. Last week, SpatialOS from developer Improbable was apparently barred from being used within Unity development. SpatialOS is a robust tool that many Unity developers use to add multiplayer to their games. For a time, Unity's new Terms, which went live in early December but were only clarified to Improbable last week, actually affected games that were already released. This led to some quick back and forths between Improbable and Unity through their... -

EA Cancels Yet Another Star Wars Game (Update)
A headline like "EA Cancels Another Star Wars Game" feels like they're a dime a dozen these days. I think EA may have cancelled as many Star Wars games as they have closed studios at this point. Here we are again and here EA is with another cancelled EA game on their hands. This time, the development studio has decided to cancel its open-world Star Wars game that EA Vancouver had been working on. Prior to EA Vancouver working on this title, it was in development from Visceral Games. Of c... -

It looks like the cat is out of the bag when it comes to the next year for content coming to The Elder Scrolls Online. Earlier today, the Elsweyr expansion was announced alongside the "Season of the Dragon" which promises to continue throughout the year.
I was provided with the highlights from Bethesda, so let's first take a look at those.
That's a fairly succinct list, but let's dive in a bit deeper into Elsweyr. Elsweyr is slated to launch... -

Valve Reflects Back on Steam in 2018 and Looks Forward to 2019
Valve just released a fairly comprehensive "year in review" for Steam that covers everything from the Steam Store, to active users, to a breakdown of users by region, to changes made to the Steam Community, to upcoming changes they're already working on for 2019, and more.
Most of what is discussed in the blog is essentially a recap of what we already talked about at various times in 2018. You're more than welcome to check out the full entry for yourself, but we're... -

Review: Last Year: The Nightmare (PC)
A solid asymmetrical survival-horror game that's light on content.
Asymmetrical multiplayer games have been going steady for the past few years now. Some of the biggest games in that particular genre include the long departed Evolve, the still ongoing Dead by Daylight, and even Friday the 13th if you're into that sort of thing. You can now add in Last Year: The Nightmare to the mix as it combines 5 versus 1 multiplayer with elements of survival-horror. As with those other titles,... -

Steam's Updated DLC Browsing Experience is Kind of Bad
Before this evening, if you wanted to get some DLC for a game that you owned on Steam, it was either shown through a simple dropdown menu on the game's page or as a condensed list on its own page. Today, Valve did away with both of those options and replaced them with a more spread out solution.
These changes are talked about in a new but brief update on the Steam Blog.
Now, all of the DLC is listed on a separate page when you click to view more. If a game... -

Former Gearbox Lawyer Claims CEO Randy Pitchford Took Secret $12 Million Bonus in Lawsuit Gearbox Claims is 'Absurd'
Buckle up, everyone, because this is going to be a real doozy of a news post.
There are two lawsuits recently filed between Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and the former general counsel for Gearbox. They're both suing each other, both claiming the other were in violation of their legal responsibilities to the company. The lawsuit against Pitchford from the former Gearbox lawyer Wade Callender says that Pitchford received a secret $12 million bonus from Take-Two Interactive.
Callender's lawsuit, filed December 21, 2018, also says that Pitchford is in violation of some contracts that involve Gearbox and a "separate real estate company" that both of them owned. Gearbox says that these accusations are "absurd" in a brief statement released today by a Gearbox spokesperson. ... -
