EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Peter Moore Leaving EA to Become CEO of Liverpool FC

EA's Peter Moore is saying farewell to the gaming industry in a rather unusual way. Liverpool Football Club (Liverpool FC) announced today that Moore will take on the role of CEO for the organization starting this Summer. That's right, the big boss at EA Sports will be going from being "in the game" to actually being in the game.
The 61-year-old is currently chief competition officer at Electronic Arts, based in the United States, and will move to Liverpool to join the club in the summer. His nearly 10 years at EA have seen him in a number of leadership positions, including chief operating officer and president of EA SPORTS.
This was completely unexpected. Best of luck to Pet...

  • Rumor: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Sequel Leaked by Target

Rumor: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Sequel Leaked by Target

Earlier today, the Target website may have accidentally leaked the next Middle-earth title from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The first game, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was largely enjoyed by many critics and consumers alike, so it makes sense that a sequel was coming.

The search results on the Target site (since removed) showed off Middle-earth: Shadow of War. This included two different box arts, one for the base game and one for a "Gold Edition" of the game. Details also include a basic plot overview and lots and lots of DLC. The listing did include a release date of August 22, but release dates put up by retailers are notorious for simply being placeholders.

  • Rumor: Shenmue HD Remasters Coming in 2017

Rumor: Shenmue HD Remasters Coming in 2017

A new rumor surfaced this week saying that there will be HD remasters coming for both Shenmue and Shenmue 2. This is according to a "trusted source close to Atlus USA."

This rumor is essentially an update to an earlier rumor that began last year when Sega hinted that a Shenmue HD remaster was potentially coming. Sega even went so far as to register the ShenmueHD.com domain.

It's probably a safe bet that if this rumor pans out, we will see the games released prior to the release of Shenmue 3, which is now rumored for a 2018 release. What better way to drum up interest in the long-absent sequel then...
