Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard in Deal Worth Almost $70 Billion

The dream of Candy Crush on Game Pass is that much closer to a reality.

Microsoft is a stone's throw away from finalizing a deal for the purchase of Activision Blizzard. The deal sees Microsoft picking up the Call of Duty and Candy Crush developer for a staggering $68.7 billion (USD). Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer spilled the beans in a new posting at the Xbox Wire earlier today.

This deal seems to have been made at the "perfect" time, at least for Microsoft....

Preview: The Anacrusis Early Access Release

What to expect from this Early Access release of the latest four-player cooperative shooter.

Stray Bombay has been hard at work developing what could be the next true successor to Left 4 Dead with their upcoming cooperative PvE title, The Anacrusis. While I'm sure they want to avoid those sorts of direct comparisons, it is a little difficult to avoid them given how much of the same DNA is shared between the two franchises. Hell, one of Stray Bombay's founders, Chet Faliszek, used to...

PlayStation VR2 Offers 4K HDR with Foveated Rendering

PSVR2 is shaping up to be one of the most powerful VR experiences.

During their late evening CES 2022 conference, Sony revealed technical specs for PlayStation VR2 and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

Sony says that PSVR2 will offer a "true next-gen experience with high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking." Given the impressive specifications that they revealed tonight, we're inclined to believe it.

This thing will...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Devs Double Down and then Backtrack on NFT Idea

Yet another company has backtracked on using NFTs after seeing the immense public backlash.

On Wednesday, GSC Game World announced that they will hold an auction to win an NFT that would eventually lead to the owner becoming an in-game NPC for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl called a "metahuman." On Thursday (that's today), GSC Game World announced that they would not include any NFT related items in connection with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

Peter Molyneux's Next Scam is a Blockchain Business Sim

I'm seriously already tired of this.

Grifter and master of hyperbole, Peter Molyneux, just announced his newest "game." It's called Legacy and it will be the first foray for the beguiled creator into the world of blockchain gaming. Legacy will be built entirely around the idea of blockchain technologies, NFTs, and "crypto gaming."

This weekend at the Gala Games' Galaverse in Las Vegas, Molyneux announced Legacy to the world. He's calling it a "blockchain...

The methods for users to have followers on Instagram

Instagram has become the most important social network for people under the age of 35, with 1 billion monthly active members. As a brand interested in this demographic, it's critical to be present and establish your popularity through growing your subscriber base.

Unfortunately, having outstanding content isn't enough to convince everyone to follow you on Instagram. As with all social networks, a specialized approach must be implemented to fulfill the needs of users.

Mario Kart 9 May Feature a New Way to Play

Is it rollerblades? Can we finally skitch in Mario Kart?

Mario Kart 9 is reportedly in "active development." This is according to industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto who contributed to an article for GamesIndustry.biz where he shared his gaming predictions for 2022. Dr. Toto says that a new entry in the long-running racing series is coming.

He says that he is "aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in...

Battlefield 2042 Subreddit May Close Due to Toxic Fanbase

Gamers and toxicity, name a more iconic duo.

Battlefield 2042 is a broken mess of a game. We all know this. Nothing has changed since our review for Battlefield 2042 went up in December. This is largely due to the fact that the development teams at DICE went on holiday break for a couple of weeks, like most of us probably did for Christmas and New Years.

After all, the developers did work for a long time on Battlefield 2042 regardless of the current state of the game or...

Konami and GameStop Hop on the NFT Scam

Because everyone needed more reasons to dislike either company.

The gaming world will soon have two additional outlets for NFT scams thanks to both Konami and GameStop. Both companies announced that they are getting into the NFT crypto world with a couple of different approaches.

First up, Konami is set to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Castlevania franchise. There's almost something poetic about celebrating a game series about blood-sucking demons by selling jpgs...

Summer Game Fest Returning this Summer

An ever-opportunistic Geoff Keighley announced the return earlier today.

Shortly after news started to break about E3 cancelling their in-person event for 2022, and possibly being cancelled altogether, Geoff Keighley jumped on to Twitter to tell everyone that the Summer Game Fest will return this year.

He made the quick reveal on Twitter, having only posted a picture of the Summer Game Fest logo accompanied by the words "returns Summer 2022."

Some Twitter User Says Half-Life: Alyx is Coming to PlayStation VR2

Hot off the rumor mill from the most trustworthy of sources.

Fairly random Twitter user @Shpeshal_Nick says that Half-Life: Alyx is coming to PlayStation VR2. This person isn't completely random. They are Nick Baker, the co-founder of XboxEra.com and co-host of a podcast of the same name. So, it's not like Joe Dingleberry is out there making these claims, but this is hardly an official source making them either.

In responding to a question about whether or not Valve would...

E3 2022 In-Person Event Cancelled as Online Event Remains in Question

By this point, nothing should surprise you.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced that they have cancelled any sort of in-person event for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) for 2022. The reason for this change is due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps you've heard of it?

The group says that "due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held...

DICE Removes Battlefield 2042 Rush Mode from Portal

This comes as the player count begins to hit all-time lows.

Prior to going on their holiday break, DICE added in a Battlefield 2042 Rush mode to Battlefield Portal. It proved to be a fairly popular mode, at least as far as Portal modes are concerned. It was the much enjoyed Rush mode but played out across the Battlefield 2042 maps, something that just isn't possible in the main game. DICE kept it up longer than most other modes and fans seemed to be pleased.

    Unfortunately,...

The studio announced today that they will release their final episode of Dying 2 Know on January 13. This will come just a couple of weeks ahead of the game's scheduled launch of February 4, 2022.

New Graphics Cards Announced by AMD, Nvidia, and Intel at CES 2022

More hardware that will be in short supply that you will never get to buy.

CES 2022 is underway, though there really isn't much of an "in-person" presence this year. Even still, some new tech was announced on the first day that was worth sharing. AMD and Nvidia both announced new releases of their current lineup of Radeon and GeForce cards respectively. Intel announced its first generation of Arc series GPUs.

Death Stranding Director's Cut Confirmed for PC

This release will be one of the first to utilize Intel's XeSS technology.

As many had hoped back when it was first announced for the PlayStation 5, Death Stranding Director's Cut is indeed coming out soon for the PC. The PS5 release happened on September 24, 2021 and the PC release is said to be coming out Spring 2022. I'm going to guess it will be a late March 2022 release as that will place it almost exactly six months out from the original PlayStation 5 release.

The start of something amazing or a terrible fit?

With news that Ubisoft is rolling out a beta for their blockchain powered NFT program, named Ubisoft Quartz, it seems only right to ask this question: Are you excited for this weird NFT-infused metaverse that developers and publishers are starting to push?

Are you all about this idea of earning "limited" items in games that can possibly be sold for cryptocurrencies?

Or are you against this idea, believing...
Yes, I love this idea! Give me NFTs in my video games! I love blockchain technology and our metaverse future!
