Counter-Strike 2 is Out Now

Counter-Strike is dead, long live Counter-Strike!

Without a press release in sight, Valve has launched Counter-Strike 2 to the world. This free-to-play release is available right now and will replace your current installs of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. True to Valve tradition, today's release is actually a little bit later than initially expected. During its initial announcement in March, Valve said Counter-Strike 2 would be out in summer. It is now fall, but they only missed...

Volition is Shutting Down Effective Immediately

After 30 years, the studio is being shut down.

Volition formed in 1993, with their first game coming in 1995. That game was none other than the widely acclaimed Descent, a first-person spaceship shooter. Volition went on to make several more games in the Descent franchise. Volition also created the PlayStation 2 RPG Summoner. They created Red Faction and several sequels. They also created the Saints Row franchise, up to and including the latest franchise reboot title, aptly named Saints...

Diablo 4 is Blizzard's Fastest Selling Game Ever

    Exact figures were not given.

Diablo 4 has officially become the fastest selling game of all time, at least for Blizzard. The studio announced that the latest ARPG sold a lot of copies across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Exact numbers were not shared by Blizzard, only that it sold fast. Fast like Sonic, an IP that Blizzard doesn't own but is relevant to this news. The sales were probably helped tremendously by the fact that this release...

  • Battlefield 2042 Season 6 Announced

    Battlefield 2042 Season 6 Announced

It seems as though DICE and EA pulled a fast one on all of us. Battlefield 2042 Season 5: New Dawn was supposed to be the fifth and final season for the futuristic multiplayer FPS. I say supposed to be, because they just announced a sixth season earlier today.

The announcement came via the official Battlefield social media channels like Instagram and Twitter.

We know jack squat about what Season 6 will include. DICE said in their announcement that...

Greenberg states that none of the first-party games in the show are full CG trailers and that everything will be either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or a blend of in-game footage with some cinematics.

    Amnesia: The Bunker Review (PC)

Frictional Games plays it safe. Perhaps a little too safe.

Frictional Games is known for crafting some of the most memorable horror game experiences over the past 15 years. They began with the Prenumbra series, a trio of titles that gave us our first taste of Frictional's penchant for blending survival horror with physics-based environmental puzzles. The studio then saw a spike in popularity with their next release, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia: The Dark Descent expanded upon the...

What June 2023 Games Releases Will You Buy?

    Final Fantasy 16
    AEW Fight Forever

    The poll is expired.

    It's a fairly stacked month.

May and into June is usually when the mid-year lull begins for new game releases. Yet here we are in June 2023 and there are some big games either already out or coming out in the weeks ahead.

There are several games coming out this month, many of which you might call "bangers" that you might just happen to have your eye on. This month's poll is simple and probably a retread of a poll (or several) that have been done in the past....

Diablo 4 Early Access Launched and Went Relatively Smoothly

Though there were some hiccups on consoles.
The Early Access release of Blizzard's Diablo 4 kicked off last night and you know what? It went pretty damn smoothly all things considered. Anybody who remembers how bad the Diablo 3 launch went can tell you that it's a night and day difference with Diablo 4's launch. Of course, the real test might still be coming up when Diablo 4 "officially" launches to everyone on June 6, 2023.

PC players were either able to hop in right...

Bloomberg Reports on What Led to Redfall's Downfall

Development so troubled that developers hoped it would just get cancelled.

It may come as no surprise to you to hear that the development of Redfall from Arkane Austin was plagued with issues at all levels. This includes a lack of oversight from Xbox management, staffing issues, and an ever changing design basis for the game itself. Starship Troopers: Extermination was released into Steam Early Access a couple of weeks back and I have to say, it's a ton of fun already. The team at Offworld Industries doesn't seem keen to stop the fun train any time soon as they just revealed their content roadmap for Early Access.

This roadmap includes at least five distinct phases that will be rolled out in the weeks and months ahead in the Early Access period. We see...

Monthly Poll

  • Poll: Are You a Fan of Paying More to Play Early?
    by Shawn Zipay
Get that Premium Edition and play three days early!

Looks like the latest growing trend with game releases is to offer a more expensive Premium or Gold or whatever edition that grants you access to a game a few days ahead of its official release.

Starfield did it with their $99.99 (USD) Premium Edition. Today, Payday 3 is doing an "Early Access" release with their Silver and Gold editions. Diablo 4 did the same thing earlier in the year, as did Madden NFL 24,...
I don't mind. If people want to spend more to play early, let them!
I'm indifferent to the whole idea.
I think it's kind of dumb that people get to play earlier. Spending more shouldn't offer a "head start" on other paying customers.
