EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Game of Souls.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director for some of FromSoftware's most notable releases and best-selling fantasy writer, George R.R. Martin, are teaming up for a brand new action-RPG title from FromSoftware. Martin may be better known as the author behind the fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which served as the basis for most of the entire Game of Thrones TV series. • Oculus Stealth Releases Gear VR Competitor Oculus Go

Oculus Stealth Releases Gear VR Competitor Oculus Go

Earlier today, Oculus VR released what looks to be the first major competitor to things like the Gear VR by Samsung and Daydream from Google. They're calling it Oculus Go and it starts at $199 (USD) for the 32GB model or $249 for the 64GB model.

It's important to note that this is not a successor for the Oculus Rift. This is instead a standalone device that is about as powerful as a current-gen smartphone would be. The key difference here is that it doesn't require a phone to work. Hell, it doesn't seem to even require any connection to another device at all. It uses a Snapdragon 821 chipset (same as the Galaxy S7) but with higher clock speeds. It's also...

Fortnite Season 4 Kicks Off with a Comet Sized Impact

So I guess all of that teasing about a comet in Fortnite has finally come to a head today. Epic tells me that the fourth season for their very popular battle royale game has started "with a bang." Fortnite Season 4 includes some new landscape to play in, new gravity defying Hop Rocks, over 100 new cosmetic items for the Battle Pass, and more. It should also be noted that for the first time, the Battle Pass for Season 4 includes sprays. Those playing the single player based Save the World also have s...
