Review: Journey for Elysium (PC VR)

A short trip to the afterlife.

For the past several months now, we have offered up glimpses of the story-driven VR adventure title Journey for Elysium. We saw a game that had a unique visual style, the promise of a story that would take us all to an afterlife, a world filled with architecture inspired by Greek mythology, and mind-bending puzzles to solve. The unique visual style was certainly eye catching, but I often wondered if the rest of the game would be able to hold up to this aesthetically pleasing presentation.

With the release of Journey...

Desert Bus for Hope 2019 Charity Event Underway

Better late than never.

We're just a few days late in sharing this news with you, but when it comes to charity: Better late than never, right?

The latest annual charity drive (get it?) that is Desert Bus for Hope is well underway. A group of people have already spent three days driving across the desert, in real time, in an effort to raise money for charity. In three days and 6 hours, the crew has already raised over $388,400 for the Child's Play charity. The team is still going strong after all this time.

For those that don't know,...

Google Stadia Launch Games are Lacking

Stadia comes out of the gate already limping.

With the soft launch of Google Stadia rapidly approaching, it seems like we're beyond due for a look at the platform's launch lineup. Hell, we're probably beyond due for a look at the Stadia UI and full featureset, but that is another matter entirely.

Today, Google revealed a list of 12 games that will serve as the launch titles for when Stadia has a soft launch on November 19. For $130, you were able to get in on the ground floor of the launch of Stadia with the Founder's Edition. These kits have...

EA Working on Cross-Save and Progression Sharing Between Steam and Origin

Seems EA is serious about this return to Steam.

With the recent announcement that EA was making a return to Steam, a number of questions remained unanswered. A couple of those questions focused on whether or not there would be support for things like cross-save or even cross-progression between EA's own Origin platform and Steam.

Fortunately, we have a few promising answers today. Most developers don't like to split their communities and EA is no exception. It seems they are working to get Origin to work similar to how Ubisoft's Uplay works with...

Diablo 4 is Always Online and Includes Microtransactions

This is the Diablo you pictured, right?

Yesterday, Blizzard took time away from appeasing China to kick off their two day BlizzCon event for 2019. One of yesterday's big reveals was the announcement that Diablo 4 is coming. What they didn't share in their reveal announcement to the public is the fact that Diablo 4 will require an online connection.

Not only that, but Diablo 4 will include microtransactions. Of course, all of this has a chance to change over the course of development, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Speaking of development,...

  • Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland Mod Returns from Limbo

Fallout 4 Capital Wasteland Mod Returns from Limbo

A short time back, it seemed like the Capital Wasteland mod for Fallout 4 would be stuck in a perpetual state of limbo. The mod was aiming to essentially bring over Fallout 3, environments and all, into Fallout 4. This included the environments, quests, and even the dialogue from Fallout 3.

Yeah, there were more than a few legal issues with at least some of that and after some discussions with Bethesda, the mod team opted to put the project on hold. Thankfully, it looks like work on the mod will continue. However, instead of bringing over the voice...

Project Cars Devs Announce New Gaming Console

Slightly Mad Studios, the development team behind Project Cars revealed today that they are working on a new "stand alone console" that they hope will be released within the next three years.

The news came directly from the Twitter account of Ian Bell, the CEO of Slightly Mad Studios. He's calling it "The Mad Box" and he's already promising some rather fanciful features. Speaking with Variety, Bell says that The Mad Box will be a console similar to an Xbox or PlayStation. Not only that, but VR support is a fairly major feature that...

  • Two Popular LEGO Games Pulled from Steam

Two Popular LEGO Games Pulled from Steam

As the year ticked over into 2019, two LEGO titles were quietly pulled from Steam and other digital retailers. These two games are the now dearly departed LEGO The Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit.

The removal of these two games was first spotted via Reddit user SuperMoonky. It looks as though these games still have their Steam Store pages intact, but they no longer show up when searching for them. Additionally, there is no option to purchase the games should you somehow end up on their pages.

There has been no official announcement...

  • Skyrim Mod 'Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind - The New North' Debut Trailer Reveal

Skyrim Mod 'Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind - The New North' Debut Trailer Reveal

We all love massive game mods, especially when they hold nothing back. Thankfully, the mod scene for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still very much alive and kicking as we're about to find out. A Skyrim mod team has been hard at work creating a mod called "Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind - The New North," or "The New North," or even "Beyond Skyrim" for short. In a broader sense, Beyond Skyrim will be a collection of mods that bring most major areas of Tamriel together in one mod package. Today's reveal is for Morrowind.

    The first...

Over 7.6 Million User Accounts Leaked in Town of Salem Data Breach

Late last night, word broke that over 7.6 million accounts were leaked as part of a BlankMediaGames data breach. They were sent an email on December 28, 2018 from an anonymous source. The email provided evidence of server access and provided the complete database to DeHashed for verification.

The breach was the later confirmed at Have I Been Pwned. Here is what...

Today, Atlus gave a little teaser on the "P5R" website that indicates a new project will be officially revealed for the PlayStation 4. The problem is, we're going to have to wait until March to find out more about what this actually is. Until then, enjoy this short teaser and be sure to keep an eye on the Persona 5 R website for...

  • Epic Games Reportedly Launching Mobile App Store Next

Epic Games Reportedly Launching Mobile App Store Next

First, Epic came for Steam on the PC front. They threw piles of cash at studios to put their games on the Epic Games Store for a period of exclusivity that lasts at least one year or more. Now, Epic may be going after that sweet, sweet mobile industry by launching their own mobile games store.

This is according to a new report from MarketWatch.

MarketWatch goes on to say that Epic will once again allow devs to keep 88% of earned revenues. This is in comparison to the 70% that Apple and Google allow for.

    Will...

  • Reminder: Steam to Ditch Windows XP Support on January 1, 2019

Reminder: Steam to Ditch Windows XP Support on January 1, 2019

In case you forgot, or were simply unaware, Valve will drop Steam support for Windows XP machines beginning January 1, 2019. This more than likely doesn't really impact you unless you are one of the 0.11% that are still using Windows XP as of the November 2018 hardware survey. Of course, Microsoft ended support for XP back in 2014, meaning it has already seen four years without security patches.

Here is what Valve announced earlier this year about their Windows XP support ending.

New year, new you, right? Maybe that should...

  • Blizzard Attempting to Clean up Twitch Chat Dumpster Fire by Tying Accounts to Battle.net

If you've ever been on Twitch for even a small amount of time, you probably have a decent idea of just how downright terrible the chat experience can be. It is especially egregious in larger chats and chats that lack proper moderation, filters, or spam reduction modes enabled. Even then, it's still kind of garbage. Blizzard realizes this and they are apparently taking their own steps to try to make the chat experience a little bit less crap.

The studio announced that they will soon require anybody interested in chatting during various Overwatch matches...

These Are the Top 'Controller-Friendly' PC Games of 2018

Valve just released a new set of charts today as a follow-up to their "Best of 2018" lists from earlier this week. Today's lists provide a look at some the best "controller-friendly" games that players enjoyed throughout 2018. In a weird twist, Valve broke down the games based on the controller that was used to play them: Xbox controller, PlayStation 4 controller, Steam controller, and the Switch Pro controller.

Valve broke each of the pages down into three smaller sections.

There is a lot of cross-over...
