Valve Finally Shows Off New Steam UI Overhaul

An update to the Steam user interface and library has been in the works at Valve for years now. Today, the company finally feels comfortable enough to show off their Steam UI overhaul and did just that during a presentation at GDC 2019. I'd like to first thank Game Informer and PC Gamer (and again) for a lot of the information and screenshots you'll see below.

Library
First up, let's talk about the changes coming to how your Library will look and function with this new update. The Friends list is now integrated into a column on the right side. No idea if this is an optional...

The Outer Worlds, Remedy's Control, Detroit: Become Human, and More Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusives

As part of today's GDC presentation, Epic Games announced a number of timed exclusives that are coming first to the Epic Games Store. Among these games are The Outer Worlds, Control from Remedy Entertainment, and even some PlayStation 4 exclusives like Detroit: Become Human from Quantic Dream.

Some of these titles, such as The Outer Worlds, will also appear on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10. I guess this just lends more confirmation that Epic is less about purchasing exclusives and more about simply paying companies to keep their games off of Steam. Consumers should not...

System Shock 3 GDC Teaser

As part of the Unity keynote at GDC 2019, a new teaser trailer for System Shock 3 was shown off. I suppose that also confirms that System Shock 3 is being built on Unity. I think that was already known prior to this? Perhaps not.

The game is currently in development from OtherSide Entertainment. A release date for the horror title is not yet known. ...

Nvidia Announces Real-time Ray Tracing for Older GTX Cards

Nvidia just announced today that they are bringing real-time ray tracing to their GTX lineup of cards. This support will begin with a driver update currently slated for some time in April.

Get ready to have your framerates destroyed. Think about it this way: Nvidia's RTX cards have special hardware that is dedicated to handling the load of real-time ray tracing. Even with this special hardware, enabling real-time ray tracing still destroys framerates on these new cards.

Now they're going to add support for it on to their older cards? It will certainly make your...

Epic Games Launcher Allegedly Scrapes Local Steam Data Prior to Granting Consent, Epic Responds

Earlier today, Reddit user PhoenixPoint and ResetEra member Madjoki found out that the Epic Games Launcher may be collecting your Steam history at startup. As part of their investigation, they found that at startup, the Epic Games Launcher searches your local computer for a Steam install. If it finds that Steam is installed, it then apparently proceeds to pull a list of files typically stored in your Steam Cloud. This data includes game saves for all users that have logged in to Steam on your computer.

Madjoki also found that it pulls a list of your Steam friends and their name history....

PUBG Team Updates Community on Anti-Cheat Efforts

Today, the Playerunknown's Battlegrounds team provided a letter from the developer that talks about their ongoing anti-cheat efforts. Their letter covers a wide range of anti-cheat related topics such as how they have improved their cheat detection methods to their increases in taking legal action against cheaters.

The devs note that try to "maintain a much higher level of security than other games." Despite the devs saying that this is a "quick update" on their anti-cheat measures, it's actually quite the in-depth look at what they try to do to combat...

New World War Z Trailer Released Alongside Beginning of Pre-orders

A new trailer for World War Z was released today alongside the opening of pre-orders for the game. As we said numerous times before, World War Z is a co-op shooter that is inspired by the film of the same name, which itself is based off of the superior book of the same name from Max Brooks.

World War Z is out April 16, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store (affiliate link). ...

To the Moon Brings Emotional Story to Nintendo Switch this Summer

If you're someone that gets emotionally invested in a game, you may be interested to hear that To the Moon is coming this Summer to the Nintendo Switch. I'm talking about the idea that if you felt sad at the end of the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead game, you're going to want to have a box of tissues on hand for this one.

The Switch release is a full remake by X.D. Network. They are taking the original RPG Maker release of the game and recreating it fully in Unity. The original game, created by Freebird Games, first came out back in 2011 for Windows, with additional...

THQ Nordic Just Held a Q&A on a Site Banned for Child Exploitation

Since then, the company has issued an apology saying that they did not do their "proper due diligence to understand the history and the controversy of the site." They're full of shit.

A bit earlier today, THQ Nordic's PR team of Philipp Brock and Reinhard Pollice thought it would be a grand idea to host a Q&A (otherwise known as an "Ask Me Anything" or AMA) on 8chan. For those happily unaware, 8chan has been involved in multiple instances of child abuse, child exploitation, swatting, GamerGate, white supremacy, doxxing, and more. It has been delisted from search...

    Behind the Scenes of GTFO

A behind the scenes video for co-op action horror title GTFO just came out today. GTFO is a four-player co-op title that blends together elements of action and horror in a first-person shooter game.

The trailer includes some new information about the game. The studio says that the story doesn't play out via the usual method in a campaign mode. Insteady, the story evolves through "free continuous updates of the game." Well, that's certainly...

Horror Game Devotion Pulled from Steam Following Winnie the Pooh Uproar

A new horror game that released just six days on Steam, Devotion, has been pulled from the distribution platform. The game was pulled without warning but it wasn't done by Valve. It was pulled by the game's developer, the Taiwan based studio Red Candle Games.

Though the game is only temporarily removed (more on that later), it was done following a rather hellish few days for the studio. The game has been relentlessly review bombed by a number of irate Chinese citizens and, quite probably, a number of Chinese based propaganda groups such as the 50 Cent Party.

    The...

Sales Figures for Anthem are Half Those of Andromeda in UK

As far as physical retail sales go, Anthem was the best selling game in the UK in its first week of release.

That's the extent of the good news.

The bad news is that it sold roughly half of the total number of units BioWare's previous title sold in its first week. That's right, Mass "My Face is Tired" Effect Andromeda outsold BioWare's latest and, er, let's just leave it at "latest."

Digital sales for these titles are not included in these sales figures. Meaning that the number of units sold on services like Origin for PC, or the...
