  • Editorial: Looking at the Future of Battlefield

    The second entry in the five part series on the announcement of Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2 and the newest editorial From the Editors' Desks, "Looking at the Future of Battlefield" examines the sweeping changes from the traditional Battlefield titles of the past and why the community should embrace these changes with an open mind:

    Did anyone play a C&C or Unreal game lately? No - Why? Because they’ve continued to stay the same! Updated graphics and then what, Gameplay we got bored of 10 years ago? The Battlefield games have always been very entertaining and the game style really is a great concept. But, if they were to make just another Battlefield 2 with updated graphics, a few more communication options and new guns, wouldn’t you get completely bored? I would.

    DICE dared to try something new and immediately they get bashed by the community. Of course there are some people who are looking forward to Battlefield 1943 but no one signs up on a forum simply to praise a game. Infinite ammo, 24 players, 3 maps, it all sounds very different to what we’re used to, but that’s a good thing! DICE have yet to release a bad game, and I seriously doubt they suddenly decided to do so now. The Battlefield series, just like everything else, needs change.
