Valve has recently made public the lifetime sales figures for some of their more popular titles. The catch, and there's always a catch, is that the figures are only for retail sales. This means that the figures for Steam sales are still an enigma.
Also of note is the understanding that Steam sales for Half-Life 2 alone are estimated to be roughly 25% of all retail sales. This number is unknown for more recent titles, but is thought to be of a much, much higher percentage. Curiously, the sales figures for Day of Defeat or DoD: Source were not revealed.
Remember, when going over these figures be sure to keep in mind that they do not include any sales made through Steam.
- Half-Life 1 - 9.3 million units
- Half-Life: Opposing Force - 1.1 million
- Half-Life: Blue Shift - 800,000
- Counter-Strike - 4.2 million
- Counter-Strike: Condition Zero - 2.9 million
- Counter-Strike: Source - 2.1 million
- Counter-Strike (Xbox) - 1.5 million
- Half-Life 2 - 6.5 million
- Half-Life 2: Episode One - 1.4 million
- The Orange Box - 3 million
