That's basically the idea. Assuming this is full double elimination the hard part is when you get an undefeated team (finalist of the winner's bracket) and their competitor (finalist of the loser's bracket) playing each other. The team that has had one loss must beat their opponent twice to eliminate them, where as the previously undefeated team need only win one of their matches to send their opponents packing with two match losses.
Still, it's the standard way of doing things, and it's a lot easier to manage in a tournament than the "best record" setups that you can do over the course of a full season. Again assuming standard brackets, to win, you still have to play a fair number of matches, though... 7 straight wins would be minimum. If you get knocked into the losers bracket first round, you're going to need to follow that with 12 straight wins (13 total rounds), and really have to prove yourself to win the prize.
Needless to say, it's not very common for a team to lose in the first round, then come back to win the whole competition. :)

if you lose in the upper bracket, you're moved down to the losers bracket where you play other teams that los tmatches. the team that wins the losers bracket goes on to play in the finals, or semifinals. I forget. but they can potentially still win.

Guest replied$2720 in prize money.
64 teams x $50 each = $3200
That leaves $480 for expenses.
Apparently they're having some difficulty with sponsors... running a large LAN costs far more than that, but ideally you get your sponsorship to at a minimum cover all expenses so all entry fees can be recycled into prize money.
So, if you do a top-three prize scheme, with each team getting half of the team that beat them... you've got a what, roughly 1550/780/390 split? Or is this a winner takes all tourney? If you're bringing a team of 5 guys... $10 each investment, $320 each payout for first prize... Not huge stakes, but for such a small investment amount, it's not that shabby of a pot.
Anyway, it's a tough job planning a LAN, so good luck to them in getting the whole competition filled and running successfuly.Leave a comment:
