Randy Pitch[my game]ford has been interviewed yet again. Randy is leading the Gearbox team, who are making Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, the single-player version of CS with an assload of new toys. This time, Intelgamer takes the microphone. Besides Intel sucking ass, so does this interview.
Don't mind me, I'm mad at the world. A fool without a PS2 and without GTA3.
Intelgamer: How will the AI work in CS:CZ? Will computer controlled teammates be able to give and receive orders? They already ask the same freaking questions. It does have some juicy shots of CZ, though.
Randy Pitchford: The AI in Condition Zero is bot style, which means that it simulates human player actions. In practice, the decisions the bots make can be influenced by orders delivered through radio commands, but we're making these guys to feel human so they won't always obey if it means putting themselves in unnecessary danger or doing something that directly goes against their primary objectives -- even then, there are exceptions.
Intelgamer: Will the single player game feature a buying system similar to the current multiplayer CS? If so, will you gain or lose funds depending on how the mission goes?
Randy Pitchford: You earn funding by completing objectives. Funding is accumulated over your career and you'll spend your funding on the recruitment of new squad members, training squad members and outfitting your squad with equipment. Earned funding is also a measure of how accomplished your team is and is used to determine which more difficult missions
