    Powerplay's revival.

Nearly a year and a half ago, Valve Software introduced to gamers a revolutionary new technology called PowerPlay. Partnered with Cisco Systems, the two companies planned to design new protocols for the internet to decrease latency and improve connections for everyone. Valve stated that they wanted normal online multiplayer games to mimic the performance of a LAN game. Fairly large announcements, but coming from these two leaders in the industry, people were turning their heads. Many software and hardware developers signed on to support PowerPlay in their future games and products and the hype grew.

Months have passed, and nothing new appeared, eventually people just forgot about PowerPlay, forced to play on their laggy slow connections, wondering what ever happened. Well guess what, it's back, but in a less extravagant form. According to this story on VoodooExtreme, PowerPlay has changed into Game2k1 and is basically a normal ISP with the the PowerPlay protocols, go here for the details.

Basically, although PowerPlay is back, it's not as large as intentionally planned. Hopefully other ISP's will (if they can, that is) support the protocol.
Working...
