    Qizmo, HLTV and You

Term from QGL (Queensland Gamers League) has just posted a great article about Valve's new multicasting spectator technology, on the AusCStrike website.

Term gives us an outline of the history of multicasting software, starting with Qizmo, and leading up to Valve's new baby - HLTV. He also lets us know exactly what this little bundle of joy from Valve can and can't do.

Here is a brief piece of the article :

Half-life previously has been plagued as a spectator sport, despite its enormous popularity for countless mods, as it has had a clumsy or non-existent demo recording option, and yet still it has managed to captivate hundreds of thousands of young people around the world, who war it out night after night despite these obstacles.

Its all set to change around September this year when Valve release their version of HLTV, or what they are calling Multicast Spectator Mode (MSM), which will allow people to view games through their Half-Life client, from both LAN or Internet based games, simply by connecting to a proxy server.

It really is a good read for those of you who are not familiar with this little bit of new technology, And for those of you who have seen it all before, you might find it interesting too.
