PlanetHardware has kicked up an article on tweaking Counter-Strike, it has the same old "rate and pushlatency" commands, but also adds some new tweaks to the bag.
/me thinks: shouldn't PlanetHardware deal with hardware?! This is confusing me, read on the madness!Gibs look really great in HL/CS, but can chew up a bit of your framerate - which if you're trying to maximize you'll want to turn these off. First, use 'cl_gibcount' which can be set from 0-4 for normal usage. This is the number of gibs to spawn when an enemy blows up. Next, you can also set 'cl_giblife', with settings of 0-25 (which correspond to seconds). Again, setting closer to zero will improve framerate by making gibs disappear sooner. Lastly, you can set 'cl_gibvelscale' which sets the factor for gib graphics. This is normally set to '1' but can be set higher for improved FPS.
