Google announced today (and will talk about more at GDC 2014) about their upcoming plans for Google Play Games. First off, they revealed that they are introducing game gifts to the service. This will allow players to send virtual in-game goods to anyone in their circles or through player search.
In addition, the company plans to expand their Google Play Game services by expanding multiplayer to support iOS. That will bring "turn-based and real-time multiplayer capabilities to both Android and iOS." Yes, it sure does sound like you'll soon be able to play supported multiplayer games against your friends over on iOS and vice versa.
