I see cg childrens programs on tv all the time, it would probably just be one of those based around block people/monsters and building/breaking blocks, then you can sell lego style merchandise and probably get sued :P.

Would You Watch a Minecraft TV Show?

In speaking with Financial Times, Markus Persson (notch) revealed just how wildly successful Minecraft has been for Mojang. Success in this case coming in at about $80 million since Minecraft's commercial release in October of 2010.

That equates to about 5 million paying members in the world. In addition the stellar sales of Minecraft itself, over $1 million in revenues were made through merchandising. Minecraft and Mojang related items sold through ThinkGeek, Jinx, and Happy Socks, all contributed to that $1 million figure. The most sought after items being Minecraft T-shirts and socks.

The only similar story in all of this? Rovio, makers of the Angry Birds series of games which posted up revenues of $100 million.

Now, as for the possibility of a TV show? Notch has not ruled out the possibility.

Looking to the future, one area that Mojang may leverage better is merchandising - something that Rovio excels at. Might we see a Minecraft TV show?

"We've been approached by a number of high-profile Hollywood producers and asked to do TV shows," Manneh said. "We may do that. It's hard when you don't have any experience and someone comes to throw these ideas around. We have so much to focus on with just the game development and growing the business. But if the right idea comes along and the right people that we'd want to work with, we'd say why not?"

I'm just not sure how that would really work for a game, especially Minecraft.
