FIFA Interactive World Cup 09 - The Final 8
The final eight were discovered after more than 250 FIFA Soccer 09 gamers battled it out on PLAYSTATION 3 in two live Conference Finals on both coasts and an online tournament bracket.
The final eight earned their place in the National Final through exhibiting elite soccer skills and are listed below:
East Coast Conference Finalists:
Nenad Stojkovic - Parma Heights, OH
Nick Casillas - Saunderstown, RI
Amir Nassar - Bayonne, NJ
West Coast Conference Finalists:
Mike Eapinoza - Los Angeles, CA
Ivan Lopez - Long Beach, CA
Dan Meyers - Pittsburgh, PA
Online Finalists:
Giuseppe Guastella - Ukiah, CA
Michael LaBelle - Missouri City, TX
The finalists will battle it out in the exclusive environment of the state-of-the-art High Definition theatre within the Sony Wonder Technology Lab with up to 80 guests and attending media soaking up the virtual soccer atmosphere.
The event is invitation only and will start at 11am and continue until 4pm.
Soccer legend and ex-Columbia international player, Carlos Valderrama, will also be making a personal appearance to meet with gamers, sign autographs and will be available interviews. “El Pibe” (The Kid) made 111 appearances for the Columbian national team and as well has having a celebrated club career both in Columbia and Major League Soccer, ending his career with Colorado Rapids in 2003.
Current star of the US Women’s National Team player, Heather O’Reilly, will also be making an appearance. O’Reilly is a US team regular having been a star at the 2004 Olympics earning a gold medal. She also featured in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, earning a bronze medal as USA finished third in the competition. O’Reilly also plays for Sky Blue FC, a member of the Women’s Professional Soccer league.
The FIWC National Final is the last stage of a long search to find the best virtual soccer player in the US. The ultimate prize for the winner and a trip to Barcelona to represent the USA and a chance to be crowned the best virtual soccer player in the world and receive a $20,000 first place prize.
