I usually find that asking a player if you can fly after they die works pretty well. 9 times out of 10 they respond positively. The other 1/10th play as sniper to keep people out of their "precious" jets.

There should be another class that we'll call the Pilot class for lack of a better term. The Pilot class would only come equipped with a sidearm, seeing as how the cockpit isn't exactly roomy enough to fit a pilot AND his M95 inside at the same time. Also, if he got shot down over enemy lines, there's little that they can do to protect themselves.

And, They would be the only class "holding the keys" to the pilot seat. Even if a sniper would kill a pilot trying to take off, there'd be no way to recover the dead man's kit to switch to Pilot class one second before departure.
I like that idea but whats to stop say 5 or so pilots tk'ing each other outside of the plane to get in? If there was a fair and simple way of say picking 2 random ppl each round and giving them the option of having jet pilot status (if they chose no then offer it to another player etc) it could possibly work. Would also cut down on the pilot whores who live in the jets

If you were to pick pilots at random, your ground forces would suffer.

I know that when I'm on the ground I appreciate having a good "whore" in the air, because he/she keeps me safe.

Not meaning to criticise you as youve said lower down the thread you dont mind sharing planes etc. But a lot of pilots on the servers i play on just fly around racking up huge scores every single round every single map, without doing much for the team. A good pilot who scores well and helps his team is a good asset, an excellent pilot who helps himself and tk's to ensure he stays in the plane is not.

I definately feel you on that. I absolutely HATE it when I see a guy with an M95 running up to me when I'm in the chopper... If you are going to gun, you should play support or engi. Often times you will find me hovering above tanks to repair them (More now than ever) because AA has forced us to the deck.

There are plenty of guys that fly purely for the points, and its sad, however... you can't punish all the great pilots out there by making vehicle selection a lottery. Plus, for how often it happens (being Tked for vehicle) it just isn't worth it. I've probably been tked 100-200 times for vehicles. Thats not all that bad for almost probably 200hrs in choppers and planes.

I'm not saying "ohhh I'm soo good and you're soo bad" sometimes they do alright. However, I happen to know that with the improved AA in 1.2 alot fewer pilots can actually do anything to help out the team, and I happen to know that I can help the team, so I am going to try and get the chopper every time, because chances are the other people don't really know how to use it.

If the people waiting are good, they should say something.... "hey man, I'm a pretty good pilot, mind if my buddy and I give it a shot after you guys die?" then the answer is of course SURE! And let the switching turns begin. Thats fun and fine.

There is nothing wrong with finding the squad who is using the chopper, joining them and either Squad typing or chatting with them I do it all the time. I will leave my squad, join theirs and say "you guys got an enemy chopper on your butt"
Oh man, if only this would work each and every time.

I am the same way. If you've ever been killed by a heli gunner named dark_zero then you've most likely witnessed me as the pilot. We tend to run most of the game with rarely a death.

I run a personal VoIP server (Ventrilo) for personal use, and we use it as our main communications tool when joining and playing a server. I will call out what I see, and the gunner (either dark_zero or killerinstinct) will reply to me over VoIP to let me know which he sees. We have a pretty stable communication, and we help out the team as much as we can. (hold back the enemy on a front until ground forces arrive)

I am not opposed to having other squads run the helicopter, but I agree that most of the time, even pre-1.2, they will be shot down within 5-10 seconds of flying. Alot of them haven't grasped the concept of evasive maneuvers, so we don't bitch because we figure everyone has got to learn somehow.

As for the "pilot" class, it's an interesting idea, but I doubt it would help the game...

              PEACE

I love to run over noobs who lay infront of plane when I get in. They think I give a crap about points. HAHA, actually I don't. And I try to play on servers with TK punish off. Once there was EUROFIGHTER clan on server. Both clan members laid before my plane but I didn't care. Took off and never was shot down till the end of round and they were waiting at airport wasting their time.
