    A2A missiles

Recently there has been alot of banter of plane whores who think air combat is too easy now. This is because "any noob can lock on and fire a missile". These people love dog fighting and i liked it aswell. But the sole reason these people liked the old a2a, was because it was broken. Before 1.2, a2a missiles were basiclly useless, unless your enemy was flying straight. Enter 1.2, now a2a is unescapable, and thats bad. Its become a game of who can get on whos tail. Both the old and the new a2a are bad, except 1.12 was fine for flying straight, and flare detection. Missiles need to not stray to other targets, unless they are flares, and they need something to add a skill element. Leading your target is the answer, and this applies to ground aa aswell. Its very simple, when a locked missile fires on a target, it creates a cone from the locking circle that confines the missiles flight path. For example, if the enemy is turning left the pilot would have to get his lock to the right side of his locking circle. The closer the enemy is to the pilot/aa, the more they have to lead.

I am a novice pilot. The new patch doesn't make a difference for me. I still have about the same kill to death ratio. Every once in a while I will see a pilot when he doesn't see me and I usually kill him. When I come across an expert ace even if he doesn't see me I still die because he is good enough to react, evade and get behind me for the kill. I have also found that rockets appear to be more accurate when firing in a sharp turn. They for some reason can follow the target through extreme 90 degree turns.

One other thing I like is the ability to unload a Carriers AA rockets at a enemy plane that just passed the horizon and still killing him.

When your flares are reloading you have to be cautious and stay away from enemy airbase. Then when you get flares you can go into a dogfight and they will give you enough time to maneuvur sp? behind the enemy.

You're so full of it that it's coming out your ears. You haven't dodged a damn thing, if a missle decided not to hit you it was because it saw a friendly that was behind it half the map away and went after that instead. The fact that missles still would rather kill friendlies over enemies is the only thing that might ever save you. Unless you want to post a vid with your "1337" missle dodging skill then put a sock in it cause we both know you are just trolling at the moment.

ya i like the 1.2 changes, aside from the glitchy missiles, and the 90 degre turns.

I saw 2 missles literally come inches from an enemy choper then both defy gravity, stop on a dime, turn around and TK a full friendly chopper a good half mile away...
              hooray for A2A

A hard turn shouldn't work. Missiles turn better than planes do.
When someone gets a lock on ya, you need to drop your flares and break. Don't just turn, BREAK!

Yeah... that would be a bug, alright.
Still, I'll take somewhat buggy but mostly functional missiles that occasionally hit friendly planes over completely broken missiles that only ever seemed to hit friendly planes.

hard bull$$it i read recently on AA missiles [both a2a and s2a] - truth is simple, missile goes bonkers when lock breaks. it applies to both a2a and s2a missiles - so break that lock! and missile is going bye bye.
it is actualy easier to dodge s2a missile than before, because lock range was DRASTICALY reduced. no more locking on hind on iron gator, reduction is about 50% or a bit less. it has also great impact on dogfight - if you are a poor sod that got a 'tail', than.. die. sorry, but the whole battle [ww2 like] was to get on a tail, in modern combat even that is reduced - fire, forget. bf2 missiles need constant lock form plane to hit, if you break, you wont hit.

so if you are an 'elite', then break, if you are not - learn, or stfu, because the more threads on aa i read, the more sure i am, that only biggest of loosers complain about how uber S2A is [buahahahaa] and how boring and 'skilles' A2A is. there is no skill in pulling a trigger, skill is is positioning yourself.

in 1.12 pilots mastered only pulling the trigger [majority of pilots, there are some very skilled exceptions that know what to do, not only TALK about knowing what to do]

im realy woried, that dice is going to nerf AA again, making lame plane whores rejoice - 4pack from tunguska hurts

                      Re: A2A missiles

It's not perfect but it does make it harder which is what it needed to be. After they completely screwed them up with 1.12 the current system is miles better.

The only thing I don't like is S2A being able to lock onto you and can shoot you (with the guns too in the case of mobile AA, not just the missiles) from farther away than you can see them...

If an enemy can get lock you should at least be able to tell where they are in return. After all, they are radiating which should make it possible tell which direction it's coming from.

a lie. he can shoot you with guns, but he cant lock on with missiles. it was true pre-patch, now lock range is REDUCED. strongly reduced, and if you cant see mobile aa, then you 'dont play good enough, get some skill, blah blah' <- this is what we were told pre-patch when someone complained about uber helos/jets. truth is - helos were killable, truths is mobile AA is killable. in fact it is paper thin, i have almost 500 kills in aa, most of them pre-patch, and believe me, i know what im telling - tunguska cant lock on you, until you are realy near, it wasnt so before

problem when mobile AA sees you and you cant see him seems to me like 'i fly high, so anybody can see me' attitude - go lower

as for shaking A2A missiles, you cant do much when someone fired them, but you can a) shoot faster than him, b) break the lock doing evasive maneuvers [sharp up and bank, go lower, between the mountain tops/cranes/bridges etc] c) lure him to your stationary AA d) lure him to your mate in plane but primarily - outmaneuver him

my k/d in planes isnt high, because i did a2a mostly, but it didnt drop post-patch, so it is doable

These are good points, and I have been using them. There are still few balance issues, J-10 is far more superior than F-18 or F-35B and MIG is superior to F35B and F-18 in terms of manouverability. I'm not even mentioning bombers here, because fighters should be better than bombers in dogfights.

Thing is, if you use J-10 or MIG and you know some moves, it's very hard for opposing pilot to do anything against you. J-10 can even shake solidly locked missiles out of its tail. On the other hand, some jets are better than others, so... what's there to complain in the first place, choose a jet which helps you the most

I totally agree with the chap who posted this topic. Missiles or planes were balls, before you would be literally stepping distance and missiles would miss, nwo however they are drastically accurate and people whom use stingers, IGLAs etc now are pretty simple kills. I was armed with a stinger and a Tugusuka the other day and enemies were simply falling from the skies. Before it required skill now its pretty simple.

Btw you might want to try rolling right/left doing a whole 360 degree turn which sometimes does the trick or simply pilot extremely high and only come down to bomb :)
