Picked up the Creative X-Fi Platinum this past weekend. Thought I would share a few brief BF2/X-Fi comments with you.

Readers Digest version - Get X-Fi, get it now!

Ok, so I replaced my Audigy 2 ZS with the X-Fi card. The Audigy 2 was going south on me, so I figured what the heck...

WOW! The X-Fi is L33t! Drivers/software installed without any problems (had to do a uninstall of the ZS and all the other Creative drivers and software, but that's all normal stuff).

After the install, fired up BF2 and changed to Audio settings. It allows me to select X-Fi, but not Ultra sound quality. Huh? What the?

Well, decided to give SP a shot with it... what an incredible experience. You could hear everything clearly and with much more detail and ambience than I thought you could get from a video game. Ran equally well online in MP.

There was NO adverse impact on my frame rates, no hiccups at all, also no distortion, crackling, etc... just very clean FULL sound. I may have picked up a few FPS, but I'm not one to measure that - the game ran smooth as butter with everything on the highest I could set it (which is the REAL test).

They sounded good on my cheap-arse Logitech headphone/boom mic as well!

Bottom line - get the X-Fi, don't walk, RUN.

I borrowed the x-fi twice, its a damn nice card, but I cant hear any difference! I already have very very VERY clear positional audio with audigy 2 zs / 5.1 . Also the sound quality is not changed, I listened to special sounds and they sound the exact same with x-fi/a2zs. Also all the environment effects could already be heard with the a2zs.

Someone told me that older cards than the x-fi reduce the played effects (when alot is happening). I played on 64 maps and I CANT HEAR a difference. during the hardest fights I still could hear the blackhawk flying miles away with the a2zs and x-fi. For me the card is not worth the money for Battlefield 2.

for the rest like mp3/movies/multimedia, the x-fi is amazing

I think you need to get the one that has the memory on it in order to run the ultra high setting.

I agree heartily. I just got the Elite Pro to touch up the entertainment system and to say the least, worth every penny.

Where can I find the FPS Fatal1ty one? I haven't been able to find it, only the regular and the platinum versions. The Fatal1ty one is the one with the 64mb onboard memory...
