Sure they're not as well trained as a real military but that doesn't stop them from killing people. You don't need alot of training to throw a grenade, plant a IED, or spray and pray with a ak.

This isn't about pro/anti-war, or Democrat/Republican politics, or army recruitment tactics. A guy went above and beyond the call of duty, and was given military recognition.

Maybe, if I wasn't in the Marines. I agree we have the upperhand but that doesn't mean its some cake walk because if it was no one would get killed. Why don't you ask the Russians about how easy it is to defeat the muslims. And why do you insist on calling them evil muslims?

I don't even care to answer to half of the posts in this thread, but these insurgents have more combat experience than almost all of the Marines fighting there. These guys are former Republican Guard and Al Qeada that have been fighting for years and are the farthest thing from 'untrained.'

And whoever was saying that his award is a publicity stunt is really misinformed. Remember, it was the Captain and 3 other guys that killed these 20 insurgents by flanking them in the trench. Had he been by himself, he would have gotten the MOH.

Well this guy may be a camper, but he beats anything i've seen to date. He didn't have the highest "kill count" in vietnam, but he and his spotter recorded over 300 enemy kills. Only 93 of which could be verified by outsiders by going to the area after the kills and seeing the bodies. (another words it wasn't safe). This rule has been retracted since by the U.S. Military so that when a spotter and sniper both observe a kill, it's official, no need for after-shot verifying.

It would be interesting to see what your reactions would be if he was Dutch, Japanese or British, etc.

Just remember that these insurgents are not trained properly in any shape or form, their budget for military hardware is that of a pet monkey and a banana, they think that by running and jumping with an AK47 they can shoot straight and worst of all their fanatical idealism is not a very good trait in combat where by you MUST keep your head down.

And like Andy Mcnab's story, soldiers tend to over exagerate after an engagement

So I'm not all that inclined to believe anything that's written on a website especially when the the Iraq War is condemned by nearly everyone and the need for propaganda is at a high.

On a final note: Nearly every nation has their own Marine unit. Nothing more annoying than hearing someone say 'The Marines rock' when they could be referring to the Croation Marines, Greek Marines or the Space Marines from that game Warhammer (I really liked the demo)!
