what sort of vehicle comat is there and how is it?

it caught my interest that there is vehicles in this game, at least i saw a screenshot of tank combat. being a fan of the BF series, how would you say this game's vehicle combat is? is it enjoyable? balanced? is it sort of like CoD4's helicopter/jet call-in?

To answer your COD4 question - the airstrike and helicopter have been replaced with artillery and attack dogs. They do function the same way as in COD4 however - if you get a killstreak of 5, you can call in the artillery strike, and if you get 7 kills in a row, you can call in a pack of attack dogs.

As for vehicle combat...It's only at a very basic level in CODWW; quite a bit different from BF2.

    - First, there are only tanks, no other vehicles. And there are only a small number of maps that support vehicles (4, if I remember correctly). There are only Russian vs German tanks, no US or Japanese tanks.

    - The stock maps are fairly small and there are buildings/obstacles in the way much of the time, so most of the combat takes place at close/med range. This will likely change when custom maps come out, however.

    - There are only 2 camera views - the basic "forward" view from above the tank, and a zoomed in view from outside the main turret. There is no cockpit view, no rear view, no other alternate camera views.

    - You can have up to 2 people in a tank, the driver, and top machine gunner. You can drive it by yourself, and quickly switch to the top MG if you want.

    - In CODWW there are special vehicle perks, similar to the player perks in COD4. There is a perk you can use to operate a small forward facing coaxial MG when you're the tank driver, but its effectiveness is limited. There are also perks to make your tank drive faster, have the main turret turn faster, have the top MG not overheat as quickly, and to have the main turret reload faster. You can only pick 1 of these perks to use per custom player class.

    - The tanks are designed to not be as hard to destroy as in BF2, because CODWW is more of an infantry-based game, and they didn't want them to be overpowered. There are bazookas, sticky grenades, and satchel charges that players can use to destroy tanks, as well as perks that increase explosive power of these weapons (and a perk that players can use to lessen explosive damage against themselves). A 2-man team can destroy a tank pretty easily. 1 very good player can also do it. A lot of players don't use teamwork, or have a lot of anti-tank weapons, so once you're in a tank, you can usually rack up a decent number of kills before being stopped.

Vehicle combat is more of an add-on to CODWW, not a main combat mode. Again, it's only basic. You won't get the large tank battles as in BF2. Again, this will likely change a bit for the better when custom maps and mods start coming out (after the next patch, probably coming in January). One of the game-types in COD:UO was Base Assault, which used large maps and tanks to soften up a base before it could be captured, and there are people who are working on such a mod right now for CODWW.

You don't play as an attack dog, you can call them in. They were the dogs in COD4 SP, yet this time they actually have a job in MP. Instead of calling in the chopper, dogs come running in and chase down your enemies to kill them.

The vehicle combat is pretty lame. Tanks in most servers take a hell of a lot of hits to destroy them, so people in tanks just drive around owning everyone in the server, especially if one team gets all the tanks (Which does happen quite often)

If you've played a lot of BF2 it's pretty easy to deal with the tanks in this game, they move much slower, turret and tracks, even with the perks. Plus with the detailed terrain, its easier to hide from the tanks.

It does feel like a add on right now, but I like it, and since there is stock map, with 3 tanks I'm hoping mod maps bring more. With a 40 person server and like 6 tanks, and a nice wide map, It could get very close to BF2 ground wise. It could spawn a whole other game, something a lot of people would like to see, and BF2 like game, with this infantry gameplay.
