    PR and its "realism"

id just like to highlight what eggman said in a post.

The lucrative nature of console gaming, when compared to the relatively dead PC gaming market, combined with the gargantuan costs of developing AAA titles has forced publishers and developers into targeting consoles as their primary revenue source. Keep in mind that Halo 3 sold more copies in it's first hour of availability than Crysis has in a couple of months.

Console gaming is, by nature, mainstream appeal. Hard Core realism is, by nature, antithetical to mainstream appeal... the niche that PR appeals to has allowed the mod and community to thrive in an environment that is very unsupportive of mods.

Not saying the mod is perfect, nor am I saying that I agree with and like all aspects of the mod.. but mainstream appeal is not what it's about... it's about trying to inject realism and teamplay elements into BF2's combined arms "arcade" platform. And remain faithful to the realism niche community that has made PR very successful in terms of the BF2 mod environment.

And the time devoted to it is given freely... so please use a lil humility and context when posting feedback.

    egg

before people start saying PR is not realistic and all that read that ^^^ also note that PR is as realistic as the BF2 engine will allow , so, PR is not very "realistic" but its a more realistic than vbf2 and other mods.

We won't see true realism until VR rolls around somewhere in the next 20 years. And won't that be great.

Used first gen VR gaming. Gave me eyestrain and headaches within 15mins flat.

Doubt violent games will ever go that way personally. People are only human and break easily. There will be psyche wards full of VR PTSD victims the length and breadth of all landmasses as a result of THAT sort of gaming.

But it'd still be fun for the normal of us.

"normal"??? It's you normal people that will end up in the psyche wards! Take my word for it, there are some things that you shouldn't experience without the correct training and backup, and even then it breaks the strongest eventually.

Much easier to use screensas a limited form of barrier between you are the game so you don't develop addictions to gaming, emotional problems or breakdowns in the barriers between the virtual world and the real world.

I look forward to trying PR
(I played my fare share (last year) of bf2)
              but my point is
even BF2 is way more 'realistic' than most REAL mil SIMs
              visually that is
of course - there is much in the 'gaming' more
              but nonetheless - well done

realism is boring....go join marines if you want realism. Its been said before and its true

i don't feel like crawling around because i would die from 1 shot, thats bs, games supposed to be fun! Especially FPS games, they are not RTS, it should always be fast pace action. Not like....10 minutes to organize squad and roll out holding each others hand.

Well, realism is only going so far in PR. We aren't talking the 10-12 hour missions of ArmA here.

We could be finding out that the sluggishness of PR is due to the influx of new players without the ability or experience to be able to decide things on the spot and react to the battlefield conditions. A lack of chess-playing ability.

The rounds therefore last longer, everything goes slower. This wasn't part of the realism put into the game at all. Realism was in SFX, weapons deviation, a few other things. When you get a team of good players coming up against a team of poorer players we see rounds ending within 20 minutes. With two poor teams it is musical chairs until the round timer ends.

At some point someone is going to have survey a fair few rounds and place a blow by failed blow listing of what the troops are doing (and doing wrong) with examples of what they should have been doing and how that could have gone. Then we will find that realism in the game is not to blame, but the players themselves. Many a time I have passed messages to my team up to 2 minutes ahead of things that were going to happen, no one reacted, then my predictions came true. These usally covered cp takeovers and enemy movements. Until the new players learn to predict these two points the gaming will be sluggish and a horrible rendition of musical chairs I'm afraid.

That's all your opinion so please don't state it like it's the general consensus.

if i wanted to play chess i would go to yahoo chess, the flags tellyou where to attack, not much of a chess game medaphor if ya ask me.

blame the game, no , just that sometimes somethings can never be like reality when it comes to a FPS game, who wants to walk for 5-10minutes, its just too long of a game without some kinda spawn away from main base.
yeah i know rally points & CP, well sometimes they get destroyed, i mean think of it, opposing team sets there heart on (or a few players) on finding & destroying those & your nuts are in a vise, and the usuall argument "well flag/vehicle spawning isnt realistic enough" well neither is rally or CP, where do u see a few backpacks and soldiers poping outta them IRL? or some CP?

i think the spawn & weapon deviation just suck big time and have ruint a very good mod that i was in love with, i got a life and dont got 3 hours to play so i will wait for a better game to come along, or mabye just not play anydam thing but CHESS.....

And thats how it should be. The enemy team SHOULD get penaltinazied(sp?) for loosing a rallypoint/bunker. In 0.6 you could kill rallies all day long and noone would really care coz of the SL spawn. But now, if you kill the SL and destroy their rally the enemy will suffer. Sure it sucks when your at the recieving end but thats life

yeah i know what ur saying waah & agree, the search & destroy is cool, what i meant was if a team can find these they can get a big advantage really quick and its a really big penalty i think when u loose both.
i just think some trans at main base would be nice if ya get in a rut like that, or some sorta mobil spawn like supply trucks or anything to get your troops back to fight asap without them having to be spread out walking alot.

people used to cry about walking with the last version & i really thought that was dumb cause you had spawns everywhere allmost, now ya really do have to walk alot.

anyway no big deal ,i kinda gettin used to not playing, spend more time IRL & dats allways good.
