  • Registry key backup problem

    I backed up my BF2-related registry settings before formating my windows (C drive) partition. My Battlefield 2 files are located on my 2nd (D drive) partition under /GAMES/. However when I merged the .reg file I received a "Your CD-KEY is not valid." message when attempting to join a server. It was working fine right before the format. Am I missing another key or what? Here is what I have backed up:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
    "Language"="English"
    "Locale"="en_US"
    "InstallDir"="D:\\GAMES\\Battlefield 2"
    "Version"="1.4"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
    @="CDKEYSTRING"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
    @="false"
    Whereas "CDKEYSTRING" represents my unaltered, as well as 1.41-patched, cd key.

    I would rather not have to go through the gruelling process of reinstalling and patching my client again.

    I know a couple of you might say "remove the extra backslashes" or "it says 1.4, try upgrading to 1.41" so don't bother. Those are not issues here.

    I have backed up BF2 and its registry settings quite a few times in the past, but never encountered this problem.

    Any help would be great, thanks.

    Re: Registry key backup problem

    Here's mine
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
    "Language"="English"
    "Locale"="en_US"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
    @="x9392___.........___"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
    @="false"
    And it works. You can try just re-entering the CD-key I think. Like this:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    Replace INSERT_CD_KEY HERE with your CD-key. It should look for example like this: x9392G3U4A8T7....

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
    @="x9392INSERT_CD_KEY_HERE"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Special Forces\ergc]
    @="x9392INSERT_CD_KEY_HERE"
    Just insert the CD-key without dashes and start the game, it might work.

          Re: Registry key backup problem

          I'm not missing my key. I just want to restore BF2 to working order without waiting hours on that patcher application. Anyway, that cdkey program does not even launch for me.

          Edit: Alright, I give up. I'm reinstalling now.
