I use a game controller, the Logitech Dual Action. I learned to fly so well by just doing a lot of it. Now it usually takes a good pilot to bring me down if they are in an evenly capable plane (ie F-18 against J-10).

Just flying a lot. I used to use a Logitech 3D Pro, but it was ****ed up with sensitivity and springs or something. So I gave up for a while. Then I started flying a lot on Oman (like 1.22) with mouse and keyboard, using the F-35, MiG, and Su-34 a lot. Then I just played a whole bunch in jets until I became pretty decent with them.

Now I'm re-learning with a Saitek x52 joystick. Hopefully once I've learned all its little tricks and gotten used to it I'll be even deadlier than I was with mouse and keyboard =)

Weather someone else used a joystic or keyboard will not help you learn to fly. Just practice with whatever you have and you'll get good at it.

However, as for me, I stared flying with keyboard only (no mouse), was pretty good at it lol, then I finally had enough money to buy myself a joystic, took me some time to get used to it. But I would never use anything else other than my joystick.

I'm not good, would just say I'm 'okay', but I use the k/b only - find this way better than using my joystick (ooh err)

          Scort.

I started on the Mouse/Keyboard, but sucked a$$.

After I started with a decent joystick, I improved dramatically.

I am now the $hit. Really I am.

Re: How did you learn to fly?

Back in June 2005, I saw a pilot go 500+ points in the Su-34, in Oman Demo, ticket rate was set to 2000. Back then good pilots were a serious rarity, with most pilots didnt use cannons not once. I just got to BF2 Demo and I was pulled to jets. I had no joystick then and started up with a mouse, then keyboard. I sucked, so I spent 2 hours practicing bombing on my own. After I got a joystick, I practiced every little detail I had to, on my own in the LAN server. I believe it was my nature to stubbornly learn that art.

Everything else that followed is described in my dogfighters phylosophy guide.

I just jumped in with no idea, all I did was keep the throttle and the nose up.

It really only took me a week and it was second nature.
