    Random Lag

I have been having a lag problem on BF2. Every 10 seconds, the screen freezes for 2 seconds. This means that everytime i get in close combat with someone, the screen freezes and i die. This has only started about a week ago and despite reinstalling and having a ping of only 20, i still get it.
I have set my graphics to low, despite being able to play smoothly at medium before this started.
    My specs are WinXP, P4 3ghz, 1gbDDRII, Radeon X600, SBA2
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Alex

I have the same problem, and it just recently started. I have a skip for 1 second every 4 seconds though. But it only happens for the first 15 minutes of a map.

Generic. Scan for virus/adware/spyware. Defrag hd and RAM. Check RAM is fine with memtest. Check your game settings.

But also check for background processes and startup programs. Make sure you aren't using memory in the background, check page file and free RAM when in game (minimize).

there are alot of posts with the same problem lots of ways to fix it, check your FPS ( push console ~ and then type in "renderer.drawfps 1") if that is low its not your ping do what ConscriptVirus and Eternal-Souljah have sugusted plus get a can of air and clean out your heatsinks and fans making sure to put a pencil into the fan so it doesnt spin when you blow it out

Yeah that can help a lot try that, something might be overheating.

Munk_Madness I don't know why people do that. Just turn off your machine, remove the fan then clean it out. I wouldn't do it while its on.

turn machine of yeah defnetly but i wouldnt remove the CPU heatsink or fan unless you have more cooling agent to put back onto it when your done

Nah, use thermal compound if you remove the heatsink. I didn't have any so I just removed my fan and cleaned the top of the heatsink and got everything away and now everything is running really good.

Nothings overheating and the memory is fine. Do i clean out my cache by simply running the Disk Cleanup tool or do i have to do it manually.
I think one other possibility could be that ATI Catalyst is overriding some of the settings and is forcing the game to run advanced features, so i will try and change that and see what happens.
One other thing, does hyperthreading technology on P4's help run BF2 or should i turn it off? Im never sure!

Sorry spelling police! But replacing a CPU because of some dust is insane!

                        A) Cache is located in yourdocuments/bf2/cache same for logocache.
                        B) Use disc defragmenter or diskeeper.
                        C) If you want, but I doubt it.
                        D) I have HT technology its always been on, no problems here so leave it..

yeah to clear ur cache... navigate to
                          C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

                          and delete everything in there

                          it will re-optimize ur shaders
