So I got to be a commander this weekend..

First time being a commander of a large army. I pick a spot and hide out while working the command screen. I hid my self in a plane hanger all the way at the back and facing out in the prone position. I thought that I was doing a good job at spoting all the units that were not under the UAV. While doing my job I notice that alot of my troops are hanging out around the air field. I check my scan and dont find any enemy troops in the area. I then hear gun fire (at me) and someone spaming ammo. I pop out of the screen to see whats going on and some guys were messing around in the hanger. I guess that they were waiting for a jet? I go back in to commander mode and try to tell the team where to go. Then I hear a strage noise. So I pop back out of commander mode to find one of the guys stabing me...over and over and over and over again. The server is one of the ones that FF is off, so I can't be killed, just annoyed. This lasted the whole round.

Another map and I got commander. Things were going smoth untill we lost the TV station and had the arty, UAV, sat all destroyed. So I was reduced to droping supplies and vehicles. I asked the team to move to the TV station and repair the stuff. Out of all the people on the team I got I think 3 or 4 people that tried to do what was needed. The other side was dug in real good by that point and it was going to take more then 5 people to take it back. It never happend. We went 80% of the fight with nothing more then supplies and vehicles.

In short, my hats off to you commanders out there that have stuck with it. Its a hard job to get everyone to work together.

You need a clan and voice communication.

Yea, sometimes your commander of a team that doesn't want to squad up and get organized. I was playing road rage the other day and i was commanding. there was an enemy in our main base that kept blowing up our arty and uav. I kept lighting him up and told the squads to take him out, but no one did anything........finally had to get out of commander screen and kill him myself.

I was thinking along the same lines. I have voice but the thing is such junk in game that it works only half of the time.

Yeah....I hate when you practically hand the guy over to your team and they just sit around waiting for a jet or chopper to spawn and don't do anything to take the guy out. It happens too often I'm afraid.

The tools for a great team are there its a shame when no one actually uses them

I prefer to be an active commander taking a jeep (no one wants those) and capping or attempting to cap spawns between UAV missions

Don't bother giving orders unless the squad your ordering is actually close to an objective

There's nothing more annoying then commanders giving me an attack order I'm already attacking. In extreme cases they spam me with attack order despite me standing right at the flag pole.

When I command, I like to give orders to squads "after" they capture a flag. Never before.

Typically that order is "Defend this position here", and it's followed closely with a UAV over their position showing the numbers of enemies closing in on their position, or me spotting those enemies.

If they don't listen, I drop artillery hoping to catch a few enemies in the act of capping, and we lose the flag. Oh well, it's the squads fault for not listening, not mine.

I also typically like to divert my squads to more important flags. For example, on Mashtuur, people like to go for the Mosque first, THEN they go directly for one of the two tank spawn areas that the enemy holds. I prefer to have them go for the north-west/north-east spawns which contain the artillery.

Sometimes, I prefer for my squads to ignore the Mosque completely since it's completely indefensable, even though it's a really easy flag to cap.

I typically lead my squads this way when I'm the squad leader as well.

You do know if you drop a supply crate on a damaged asset it repares it. I do that all the time cause you cant realy relly on the squads.

I do it for assets that're too far away from me, since I like to play as an engineer when I'm commanding, just so I can repair nearby assets.

First you should play more and than command. You have to understand how maps work and not just improvize...

When it comes to giving defend orders, let's face it: they are not popular. No action but enemy artillery is what people think. So a small tip when a CP is threatened is to set a Move or even Attack order instead. Then the squad perhaps understands that there will be some action when they get there and will be more willing to comply.

Yep knew that. I was having issues with the other team destroying the crates before they could fix the asset, or wait untill it was fixed and pop it again. And the one that hurt the most was the enemy tank camped out next to my arty using my supplies that I droped to fix them. Only did that once, and I could not get anyone to take the tank out.
