The reason behind the new game changes

Personally, I don't think it takes a genius to figure this out, but I am sick of all the whining about "why did they make all these changes that nobody asked for?"

For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, you are currently beta testing changes that may or may not be included in BF2142. Think about it. Dropping jeeps? Where did that come from? Personally, I play city maps mostly because I get sick of being stuck on the opposite side of a giant map and having to hoof it for five minutes to get where the action is only to have to do it all over again 10 seconds after you arrive and die. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of big maps, but I view this recurring situation as a serious flaw in the game, and perhaps DICE does as well and is trying out something new to alleviate the situation.

They also recognize that TEAMWORK is the difference between a somewhat fun way to spend a few minutes and an incredible addicting and massively enjoyable immersive gaming experience. Since the vast majority of gamers either fail to recognize this, or are unable to be unselfish enough to act as a member of a group, DICE is trying to find a way to FORCE this type of behavior. While the thought is good, the implementation leaves a little to be desired.

Again, why would they make such drastic changes to a game so obviously in its death throes? I mean sure AF is coming, but I think LESS people will buy it now, with all the complaining about the patch. IMHO, if you don't like the changes and have abandoned BF2 in hopes that 2142 is around the corner I suggest that you make your feelings known, and vote early and often, as it were. I'm not trying to stir things up here, I actually LIKE most of the changes, just because it is something, anything new. I am just trying to point out where I think this is all headed.

interesting theory mate, i think you *may* be right to an extent. I'll admit i didnt think of it..

And as for the point you made about the whiners, i agree, its the same people predominantly who were whining about how they wanted it NOW cos it was taking "too long". i said at one point, what do you want a buggy patch or a good one, and they all wanted the buggy one.

I spose its something new to complain about:p

YAh that's fine. Interesting thoughts. I wonder how you would feel if your game became unplayable?
I don't mind the new features-except for the one where the lag is so incredible there are random 2 second delays in the game. I wonder how you would feel then. More focused on your theroy, or joining the majority of people who are upset that they can't play the game like they used to?

Well, I actually don't personally know of anyone having these problems, and I really don't get a sense the the majority of people are as upset as you seem to think. You are correct, though, I most certainly would be upset if I my game became unplayable. But as Wargimp pointed out in his post yesterday, perhaps you should be looking elsewhere for the root cause of your problem.

Well, yes, I understand that. But where are the hordes of BF2 players clamoring for this feature?? Nowhere, and that is my point. 2142 will be in direct competition with quake wars, and the devs want to see if this stolen feature will work out well before they put it in for real. For cripesakes, the are using the SAME ENGINE as BF2! This is a terrific opportunity for them, because they can spend the resources usually that would go to perfecting the engine and spend it on actual gameplay tweaks.

interesting and constructive concept. Much better than the typical child griping about something new because they are too retarded to figure out how to utilize the feature.

I agree with your point here, and about EA using BF2 as testing grounds for 2142.

It makes all the sense in the world, and like you have pointed out 2142 is using a modified version of the existing BF2 engine, so why not use us poor BF2 players as guinea pigs for 2142.

At the end of the day I think all EA cares about is getting their grubby little hands in our pockets once again.

I personally will have to think long and hard if I will be willing to shell out any more money to EA for 2142, considering the bugs that have plagued BF2 since its release and the way patches keep introducing new problems.

Im hopeful though that if a new team is working on 2142, it will make for a new experience with the battlefield franchise.
