    Re: Ranks Are Meaningless

Rank is more for self reasons and overall stats than seeing whos better than who. You can only really specifically judge skill through playing with someone.

And FYI 97% of bf2 players aren't statpadders....and playing alot in a vehicle i.e. wh0ring is not illegal and stats still count for that...

Yeah, they shouldn't really be used as a benchmark against other players, they're only really good for tracking your OWN progress.

I like my rank. I do not care about other's rank.

Jet whores are the ones who camp at the jet spawn spot and shoot anyone trying to get the jet or even blow up the jet itself.

Same here! Why? I saw a Major or Lieutenant Colonel(can't tell the different) on my side just yesterday, he still died like many of us in battles. I was close to him in one instance, he shot without hitting still! So the rank doesn't mean anything at all! I like mine cause I know I am improving in moving stealthly, approaching enemy with the right methods and aiming.

Ranks are good but the reporting system is where you should be taking this issue so it wont last for the ones caught and they can all get caught.

Ditto, I'm still learning the game, so Its still new, and kind of an incentive to get better at the different skills neeed in the game. I've earned everything I have so far by playing hard (And sometimes bad  ) so its fun when I get some more confetti or another stripe..

I'm closing in on Captain rank, does not automatically mean I own those below me,in fact I have come across several enlisted ranks players who have shown me a thing or 2, my rank is mainly through volume of play,I still have bad days like anyone else.

So, when I see someone who has a rank of colonel or major, I tend to think of them as stat padders, hackers, or cheaters.

There's reason they call it rank - it stinks. Eliminate the above and the ranks will be meaningful.
But thats exactly what someone with a low rank would say......

                        Re: Ranks Are Meaningless

Rank has nothing to do with skill. Just look at the top ranked players, the only thing that matters is k/d with an assault rifle and most of the top players actually suck. Yes, with hundreds of playing hours someone has got experience, majority of the hours are usually in Karkand. Just look at Volx for instance. Three hours in Dalian plant, two in Zatar Wetlands. An average n00b I'd say. How about night maps in SF? I'd love to see some high ranked player getting owned in Leviathan or Devil's Perch, maps which are very easy to get high scores in.

And once again: Go play Project Reality mini-mod on an infantry oriented server and you know what real skill is.

                          ^^^Well said.
                          Look at the Top people.
Mostly Karkand whores usually only doing 1 particular thing (Class/weapon/vehicle) that will maximize their points.
That's their only skill. Point maximization.

                            Re: Ranks Are Meaningless

The problem isn't the ranks, but the fact that they are displayed to the whole world. Since everyone can see how well everyone is doing, everyone wants to be the best. Even if that means they have to pad to get there.

                              Re: Ranks Are Meaningless

Doesn't matter if the whole world sees them or just BF2 players.
The padders and exploiters would still be here to do whatever it takes to get to the top.

Te fact that there are 1 or 2 maps that are easier to get points than others is a problem too.
Most of the people on top only play Karkand. IMO it's an inherent imbalance in the game.

It's what someone who cares about the integrity of the game and the integrity of the players says.

What I am saying is that the ones who stat pad cheapen the accomplishments of those who earn their ranks through skill.

I see guys with high ranks play like idiots and some who play exceptionally well. When I see someone with a high rank, I want to feel like I should flock to them so I can learn new skills, not feel like I should run the other way.
