WTF are you smoking? The amd opteron 1xx series is basically a more thoroughly tested, rebadged athlon.There is no difference. The optys are cheaper, but better binned, oc extremely well, and are great gaming processors, so please don't spread that kind of ignorant crap around here, because I guarantee that someone will believe it.

Yeah, opterons are among the best processors from AMD. They are way better, which is why they're being discontinued, as some are even cheapper than their lesser A64 counterparts.

I think that if you have a dual core processor the core's clock speeds add together so: I have a 2.4Ghz Dual Core Processor. 2x2.4=4.8Ghz, if i'm correct that is.

Yeah, dual core processors are utilized to be running two different programs at one time. They are mostly for multitasking. If some manufacturer could mass produce a 4.8ghz processor at a reasonable price, trust me, they would.

Sorry to jack in but after reading the thread I got a bit confused. If I buy an Asus SLI motherboard I can only run Asus video cards on it?

I just pick up an Amd 64x2 3800 a few days ago and i have to say wow . I picked up the A8V Deluxe mobo cuz im using a newer Ati x850xt agp . Im upgrating from an P4 3.0ghz first gen on a P4P800 Deluxe with 2gb of brand new Ocz ddr 400 platnium ram.

Now i can crank up the settings and play at a high Fps rate without the yo yo efect id get in frames before . Im even getting high fps in maps like the iron gator , a map id allways lag on before .

Im really glad i picked up this Cpu only thing i hate was the Bs i whent through finding the VIA drivers from my 2 S-ATA hard drives . Its retarded that it didnt have hotplug suport .

I meant that I currently have an ASUS motherboard... and that I thought that the ASUS SLI line of motherboards were a bit pricey. Not their video cards, sorry for the confusion.

I think I'm gonna nut up and get the 4400+ x2, if I'm gonna go dualy I'm gonna to it with style. ^^ Still not sure about the motherboard... yet. And I'm also now weighing out the differences in the 78k GTX and the 1800XTs... back to the research!

X2 gives problems in Battlefield 2
X2 is dualcore this doesn't give an advantage in Battlefield 2
San Diego is an OC beast

I would go for the San Diego, though would take a 3700+, since you can clock that to 2,8 - 3,0 GHz. and therefore the 4000+ doesn't give that much of an advantage. The 3700+ will still beat the 3800+ X2 is Battlefield 2 anyway.

go for 3700+ the latest steppings are awesome.. here is mine, 14 hours prime stable until i stopped it

@ 3.1ghz

WOOOT!!....now that some serious overcloaking! damn a 3700+ San diego can be overcloacked all the way up to 3.0 and higher!......so wtf do they sell a FX-57 for again?

EDIT: ok now am starthing to change my mind about getthing that 4000+ ....3700+ all the way.
