Not necessarily, some motherboards don't list speedstep as an option. It may be called EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology), disable it!
However, there will be one called C1E (Enhanced Halt State), disable that.Leave a comment:

did you turn speed step off? if you didnt then the CPU is automaticaly dropping down to the lowest multiplier to save power.

If you have speedstep enabled, the multiplier will drop when the PC is idle. Try running orthos or prime95 and then see what speed it is running at. :)Leave a comment:

ok this is weird, i oced by E6550 to 2.8 GHz(7x400FSB) but whenever i look in everest or cpuz it shows 6x400 and 2.4 Ghz, then i run cpu speed test and it shows 2.8 Ghz....
help me clear this out plz
