Microphone issues

I recently bought a logitech clearchat headset for VOIP, but it doesn't seem to work. First of all, when i plug it in the jack, it comes up with a menu to tell what i put in, and there are three microphone options: microphone, stereo array microphone, and soundMAX superbeam array microphone. I just choose the microphone option, but should i choose something else? Also, it only picks up my voice when i have the microphone literally touching my mouth :|: , and then it is too loud. Finally, the microphone test in BF2 doesn't seem to work. What's wrong?

Try going into the vollume panel and turning on the mic boost gain. This can be done by going to the bottom right hand corner of your screen and looking for a small circle icon (its really a speakeR). Anyways, just hover over them until you see volume light up and click on it. Go to you mic option and click on advance and check mic boost gain.

If your volume control is not showing up in the bottom right hand corner, just go into Start>Settings>Control Panel> Audio (Me thinks, just look around for the audio stuff and it should be pretty self explainatory from that point).

there isn't any advanced options for microphone, just for the master volume, so now what?

You should see Advanced under the Options tab, if that does not get the MIC volume settings to appear, click the property tab and make sure microphone is checked.

i do have microphone checked, and the volume is at max, but it's still hard to get my voice to be picked up

Are you sure the option mic boost gain is checked off in the advance options under the microphone?

If you can't figure out how to turn on the mic boost through windows, I believe you can do it via BF2 awell. Simply go into the audio options and check off the box mix boost gain.

i can't do it on windows, because there's no option, and bf2 won't let me check off the box. it's probably the fact that my sound card sucks

Hmm.. I don't think you need a soundcard to have access to mic boost gain. Realtek audio 97 is the lowest you can go for sound quality and that is provided on mobo's. I use to use that as my sound software on my old rig and I had the mic boost gain option.

So first off, what sound card are you using?

Secondly, try updating the sound drivers but don't forget to delete them first before reinstalling.

I just use the chipset in the motherboard, as it's good enough. the sound card's an nForce 430. and also, do i have to have a seperate program running or something?
