I want to turn my PC into a BF2 Server? Is this possible?

Im going to a Gaming Room soon and I would like to connect a couple of PC's in the gaming room (7 or so) to my PC at home.

Do I have to download anything? If so... what?

What do I do with anything Ive downloaded.

A step-by-step guide would be appreciated.

You'll need a hub with some ethernet cables, and everyone will need BF2. You set up the LAN (If you don't know how to, forget it). Turn firewalls off, and one person creates a local game and the others join

I wont be accessing my PC at home (the potential server) from the gaming room via LAN.

I want my PC at home to be an Internet Server.

And then I will access it from the gaming room via online play.

Judging by the fact that you're asking, your PC has remotely no chance of running a BF2 server across the internet.

You could try - download the BF2 server release, install, set it up however you like (google), and make sure to stick that server in the DMZ, or open up the recommended ports.

If your computer is moderately powerful AND you have a relatively speedy internet connection, its do-able. If you know enough to ask the question, you probably know enough to understand a basic how-to article and decide whether you'd be able to do it and whether it is worth it:

A Micro$oft-based server will need better hardware and (maybe) more bandwidth, and you get crappy tech support (no support if you're lucky, wrong answers that you have to pay for it you're not) which is why I'd suggest you check into server-specific distributions of free-as-in-beer open source software.

Best of luck; there are tangible benefits to having your own server that go far beyond playing BF2, but...

...it can be hassle to set up and maintain IF you aren't prepared to invest a little time to understand at least a LITTLE BIT about how to turn the basic nuts and bolts of both the hardware and the software.
