Re: Just ordered 939!
But also note that you get what you pay for. Would you rather pay $10 for $10 worth of performance, or $180 for $180 worth of performance?
Multiply by 30%, not 20%.
1.86Ghz Conroe x 1.3 = 2.418Ghz Athlon 64 (Dual Core).

Depends on which model, the 4200+ is 2.2ghz, the conroe E6300 (worst of all conroes) should still beat it, it's dual core, and it's 1.83 ghz, but add 20% to the ghz for all conroes, in this case, the 20% adds to about 2.23ghz total, and it has a larger L2 cache.Originally posted by beastoftheeast1is the conroe really that good. w/ out any overclocking, is it more powerfull than a amd x2 4200Leave a comment:

The worst Conroe there is will probably annihilate a 4200, but thats not the point. The most important factor is that Conroe will likely offer superior value for money as likely AMD cant drop prices enough to compete. Having said that if you want something cheaper than the cheapest Conroe, AMD is still a better choice than a P4/Celeron.

Uh, the 3800+ is obviously superior, not exactly a fitting comparison.Originally posted by Doggie52With a loud BANG and a blast radius of 5km.
Anyways, which are best: AMD 64 Athlon 3800+ or Intel Pentium III 734 MhZ?Leave a comment:

@ The OP the system you got is fine, and will be very nice for many more years... however you did limit your upgrade options down the line, and screwed yourself out of some extra performance if you had waited 1 more month for Conroe/Am2 systems.Leave a comment:

pretty much $1300 including tax and shipping. And I don't doubt that conroe will be available when intel says it will, it's just that my previous computer died and I need a new one fast. So far for $1300 ive got this
Rosewill Case - $55
ASUS A8N-E Mobo - $90
eVGA 7900gt KO - $269
Athlon 64 3500+ venice (you were right) - $109
2gb Corsair XMS DDR 400 - $200
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic - $121
Antec SmartPower 2.0 500w PSU - $64
Western Digital 80gb 7,200rpm sata 3.0gb/s - $44
Sony DVD Burner- $35
Windows XP Home- $88
2 vantec stealth fans - $14Leave a comment:

Understandable. There are people that are waiting for Conroe (I know a guy on a legacy system, waiting for it to come out) but if its out of your budget, thats fine.
As for availibility, believe it.
Just curious, what's your budget?Leave a comment:

well, the 3500+ perfectly fit my budget, along with my other parts, so i guess conroe is out of the question for me, and I still don't believe they will be ready all that soon, i kinda want a comp to play on within the next week haha.Leave a comment:

Thats bullsh!t. Read this thread. Even with only 25% of Intel's shipments being Conroes, because of Intel's manufacturing and shipping capacities, the number of Conroes is going to be MORE than ALL Athlon 64 processors shipped by AMD. Avaliability will not be a problem.Originally posted by sackynutSupposedly you cant get a hold of one for a while.
3500+ Venice, you mean? They don't make a 1MB L2 cache 3500+ (unless its called a 3700+).Originally posted by Darkfox3889i just bought a 3500+ san diego, and an ASUS A8N-E.
That would, indeed, be cheaper than a Conroe at $113. But thats also a single core processor. The cheapest Conroe (they're all dual cores), being priced at $183, outperforms the X2 4800+. So its basically two Athlon 64 4000+ processors for 60% more money than one Athlon 64 3500+.Leave a comment:
