Review: Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition

15 years and a fresh coat of paint later.

Almost 15 years to the day that the original Age of Empires III was released comes the remastered Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Love it or hate it, the original certainly left an impression on fans of the franchise. I am not saying all those impressions were necessarily good, but they were impressions none the less.

What we have here is a remastering of one of the more divisive Age of Empires games released. Upon first...

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Delayed

Pre-patch also pushed out to October 13.

Blizzard just said that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, the next major expansion for their still popular MMORPG, has been delayed. It has been pushed back now until "later this year" with a solid release date not yet revealed. As is typical for these sorts of delays, the delay was an "incredibly difficult decision for the team" but they ultimately feel as though it was the "right decision for the game--and for (the)...

Review: Crysis Remastered Is One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Maximum meh.

In 2007 the original Crysis was released for the PC. The big question on everyone's mind at the time, and even through to today, is "can your PC run Crysis?" Usually, the answer was "yes, but…" because even the beefiest of computer hardware had trouble maxing out the graphical options that Crysis brought to the table at the time.

Fast-forward to 2020 and the answer gets a bit more muddled. See, the original Crysis was very dependent on...

Prior to this patch, the game was sitting at a chonky 90GB on PC. This patch will shrink the install size...

  • A Celebration of the Jak and Daxter Series

A Celebration of the Jak and Daxter Series

Long before Californian developers Naughty Dog broke new ground with modern classics The Last of Us and The Last of Us 2, they brought gamers a distinctly unique series that has gone on to become a cult classic and a fond memory for a certain generation of PlayStation fans. Unlike The Last of Us’ grittily realistic post-apocalyptic world and cinematic storyline that rivals the best movies, in the 2000s Naughty Dog were bringing us a colorful fantasy world that was—almost —pure escapism....

  • Half-Life: Alyx Mod Takes Us to BioShock's Rapture

Half-Life: Alyx Mod Takes Us to BioShock's Rapture

    There's always a lighthouse.

A new mod for Half-Life: Alyx was brought to light today courtesy of UploadVR. This mod, from developer wim.buytaert.1988, combines together Half-Life: Alyx with BioShock. The core idea here is that Alyx "crash-lands" in the underwater world of Rapture.

This is accomplished by using repurposed assets from Half-Life: Alyx in combination with new assets based on locations within BioShock itself. It's not a 1 to 1 recreation of BioShock,...

  • Amnesia: Rebirth is Out Now

    Amnesia: Rebirth is Out Now

Available now on PS4 and PC.

Frictional Games released Amnesia: Rebirth today on the PC and PlayStation 4. This is a game that we have already covered extensively in the previous weeks and months, so I'll spare you those details and get right into the press release portion.

I will make a note here to say that this game is NOT a remake or a remaster of the first Amnesia game. People seem to believe that it is just because the title has "Re-" in it somewhere. This is an entirely new Amnesia title from the studio that made Amnesia: The Dark Descent. ...
