Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard in Deal Worth Almost $70 Billion

The dream of Candy Crush on Game Pass is that much closer to a reality.

Microsoft is a stone's throw away from finalizing a deal for the purchase of Activision Blizzard. The deal sees Microsoft picking up the Call of Duty and Candy Crush developer for a staggering $68.7 billion (USD). Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer spilled the beans in a new posting at the Xbox Wire earlier today.

This deal seems to have been made at the "perfect" time, at least for Microsoft....

Preview: The Anacrusis Early Access Release

What to expect from this Early Access release of the latest four-player cooperative shooter.

Stray Bombay has been hard at work developing what could be the next true successor to Left 4 Dead with their upcoming cooperative PvE title, The Anacrusis. While I'm sure they want to avoid those sorts of direct comparisons, it is a little difficult to avoid them given how much of the same DNA is shared between the two franchises. Hell, one of Stray Bombay's founders, Chet Faliszek, used to...

PlayStation VR2 Offers 4K HDR with Foveated Rendering

PSVR2 is shaping up to be one of the most powerful VR experiences.

During their late evening CES 2022 conference, Sony revealed technical specs for PlayStation VR2 and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

Sony says that PSVR2 will offer a "true next-gen experience with high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking." Given the impressive specifications that they revealed tonight, we're inclined to believe it.

This thing will...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Devs Double Down and then Backtrack on NFT Idea

Yet another company has backtracked on using NFTs after seeing the immense public backlash.

On Wednesday, GSC Game World announced that they will hold an auction to win an NFT that would eventually lead to the owner becoming an in-game NPC for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl called a "metahuman." On Thursday (that's today), GSC Game World announced that they would not include any NFT related items in connection with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

Peter Molyneux's Next Scam is a Blockchain Business Sim

I'm seriously already tired of this.

Grifter and master of hyperbole, Peter Molyneux, just announced his newest "game." It's called Legacy and it will be the first foray for the beguiled creator into the world of blockchain gaming. Legacy will be built entirely around the idea of blockchain technologies, NFTs, and "crypto gaming."

This weekend at the Gala Games' Galaverse in Las Vegas, Molyneux announced Legacy to the world. He's calling it a "blockchain...

Game Pass Surpasses 25 Million Subscribers

This milestone was buried under the other big news of the day.

Microsoft and head of Xbox Phil Spencer revealed today that the Xbox Game Pass service is going quite well for the company. Buried in today's news about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard was word that Game Pass now has over 25 million subscribers.

The reveal of this figure came first from a generic Microsoft issued press release about today's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It was then echoed...

New Trailer for The Cuphead Show Ahead of February Premiere

An animated show based off of the game arrives February 18.

Netflix announced today that The Cuphead Show will make its grand debut on February 18. This is a new animated series based off of the indie platformer Cuphead, a challenging title that featured beautifully drawn retro style animations.

Cuphead, the game, was released back in 2017. It blended together difficult 2D side-scrolling action with hard boss fights with the occasional 2D action-platforming sections. The...

Phil Spencer Shares Thoughts on PlayStation Game Pass Competitor

    "It makes sense."

Recently, rumors started to circulate around the Internet that Sony is working on a PlayStation service that would be functionally similar to Xbox Game Pass. The service, reportedly codenamed Spartacus, would allegedly replace PlayStation Now.

Spartacus would allow PlayStation owners to pay a monthly fee for access to a library of classic and new PlayStation titles. There would be three tiers to this new program, with the base offering the same...

    NewsBits: Rollback Edition

    Oops.

You ever have think, "Hey, it's 1AM, let's do something stupid!" Because let me tell you, I sure as hell had that thought last night. Let's just say mistakes, actually several of them, were made. One such mistake was the fact that I neglected to perform a full site backup before I proceeded to do several more stupid things. This led to just being unable to do anything with the server.

My plan was to restore a backup from earlier in the week. I decided,...

What Are the Benefits of Playing Video Games?

When people think of video games and the act of playing them, they do not normally do so with the notion that there are benefits to playing them in mind. This point of view is easy to understand though as many might see someone who plays video games a lot as unproductive. However, video games are just like any other entertainment, such as movies, TV and even gambling. There is no doubt that online casinos are growing, and as they do, more people are turning to play and are discovering the...

Battlefield 2042 Subreddit May Close Due to Toxic Fanbase

Gamers and toxicity, name a more iconic duo.

Battlefield 2042 is a broken mess of a game. We all know this. Nothing has changed since our review for Battlefield 2042 went up in December. This is largely due to the fact that the development teams at DICE went on holiday break for a couple of weeks, like most of us probably did for Christmas and New Years.

After all, the developers did work for a long time on Battlefield 2042 regardless of the current state of the game or...

The gaming world will soon have two additional outlets for NFT scams thanks to both Konami and GameStop. Both companies announced that they are getting into the NFT crypto world with a couple of different approaches.

The start of something amazing or a terrible fit?

With news that Ubisoft is rolling out a beta for their blockchain powered NFT program, named Ubisoft Quartz, it seems only right to ask this question: Are you excited for this weird NFT-infused metaverse that developers and publishers are starting to push?

Are you all about this idea of earning "limited" items in games that can possibly be sold for cryptocurrencies?

Or are you against this idea, believing...
Yes, I love this idea! Give me NFTs in my video games! I love blockchain technology and our metaverse future!
