Yep, they're still nearly impossible to find.

Much like other hardware items, PlayStation 5 consoles are still damn near impossible to find and purchase. To maybe help alleviate some of the stress of hunting for Sony's latest console, the company has opened up a direct registration system that will give those in the United States a chance to purchase a PS5 this holiday season.

Naturally, invitations will be limited. Additionally, Sony notes that invitations to purchase a PlayStation 5 will be based on "previous interests and PlayStation activities." This should hopefully mean that bots and scalpers that created free PSN accounts with no play time or purchases aren't eligible for these invites, but I'm sure a few might slip through the cracks.

Sadly, Sony also notes that there will only be a limited number of PlayStation 5 consoles available for sale. If you still want to take a chance to be possibly selected to purchase one of these consoles, you need only register using your email and PlayStation ID.

Sony says that invitations will begin going out to some lucky people starting November 2021. If you are selected, you will be contacted via email with the date, time, and instructions on how you can purchase your PS5. If you do receive an email and miss your limited time window to make your purchase, you're plum out of luck.

PlayStation 5 stock shortages are expected to continue in 2022. The same can be said for desktop PC CPUs and GPUs.
