Official modding is about to take a big leap forward.
CD Projekt Red has just hired the makers of the Wolvenkit mod tools to further expand the resources that are available to the Cyberpunk 2077 modding community. According to one of the new hires, Traderain, they will be "working on various projects related to the Cyberpunk 2077 backend and the game's modding support." They hope that they "can help to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to the next level."
The modding toolkit, Wolvenkit, that the group created is an open-source project that provides unified modding support for RED Engine games. The team did at least confirm that while they are now hired by CD Projekt Red they are not abandoning Wolvenkit. It will remain a hobby project of the group just as it has been in the past.
As of right now, there is no specific statements on what improvements to the game this team will bring to the table. It may be a long while before we actually get to see the fruits of their labor.
CD Projekt Red released the official mod support for Cyberpunk 2077 back in January. According to NexusMods, there are over 2,200 mods already available for the game but not really any that are truly noteworthy. I mean, there was that one mod that allowed you to have sex with Keanu Reeves, but it was quickly shut down.
